to homeroom classroom to be ready for 8:30 am worship. Students should have all items for the first 2 classes of their day with them in homeroom. After School:

Attendance & Homeroom

  • Teachers take homeroom and period-by-period attendance. If

students are tardy for homeroom or any class, they are required to get an entrance slip from the office.

  • Students are required to report to their homeroom each morning

by 8:30 am for worship, prayer, announcements and attendance.

  • If arriving later than homeroom, 8:40 am, students must still get

an entrance slip, go to their current scheduled class and give it to the teacher.

  • If a student is going to be absent, a parent must contact the
  • ffice to excuse their absence. Early notice is greatly appreciate

if an absence is planned (ie: appointments, travel).

  • It is the student’s responsibility to check with teachers for missed
  • schoolwork. Work (including tests & quizzes) that is missed due

to an unexcused absence will NOT be excused and will receive a mark of zero.

Grading & Report Cards

  • Parents are strongly urged to

use PowerSchool to check student grades and missing assignments (updated daily). Training will be provided in September if needed.

  • Each subject teacher is

responsible for grading and recording grades for their individual classes.

  • Grade 7 students are graded
  • n a quarterly basis. Progress

reports are available 4 times a year (November, January, April & June).

  • Parents will be able to make

an appointment to see individual teachers after 1st, 2nd and 3rd term progress reports.

  • Parents may make appointments

with teachers at ANY TIME in the school year to discuss their child’s progress and success.

  • For all other subject related

questions or concerns, students and parents are asked to see the teacher who is responsible for that subject.

slide-9
SLIDE 9

Homework

  • Expect 60-100 minutes of

homework per day – depending

  • n classroom study habits,

personal goals & work pace.

  • Teachers often provide

homework time during class and students will find they have less homework if they are disciplined enough to use this class time wisely.

  • Students work best in a proper

study area for scheduled homework each day. Try to create a place at home where students can work and study with everything handy that they might need to be successful.

slide-10

Mid-Term and Final Exams

  • Grade 7 Students are required to

write Mid-Term and Final Exams as part of their 4 core subjects: Math, Language Arts, Social Studies and Science.

  • Midterm Exams in January = 20%
  • f total grade (cumulative from

September to January)

  • Final Exams in June = 20% of

total grade (cumulative from January to June)

  • Typically students will write one core exam each morning of

exam “week.” Students are then allowed to leave the school with written parental permission, or stay and attend schedule tutorial classes.

  • Students and parents will be provided with an exam schedule

close to exam times. Regular classes will not be held during exams times, but additional study and tutorial classes are available.

Tips for Grade 7 Student & Parent Survival!

  • Regular bed-time! Shut off the cell phone, computer, TV, and games.

Teenagers require 8-10 hours of sleep per night. HUGE developmental stage that requires physical rest.

  • Health snacks & lunches! Teenagers are experiencing tremendous

growth and development during these years. They require healthy snacks and lunches that are nutritious and promote energy and focus.

  • Don’t over-schedule! Children who get

stressed out, experience anxiety & depression, may have increased absences from school and ultimately may see a decline in academic performance. Set realistic goals with your children - set healthy limits!

  • Talk to your child about how they are

fitting in, how they feel about school, their friendships, etc. Let them know you are “still” there for them even though they are in Jr. High School now! Remember some students require more monitoring and supervision during their teenage years.
