Year 6 Our Expectations  Attendance: 96%+  Punctuality: on time every day / trickle in  Correct uniform & PE kit  Mobile phones  Belongings and name labels  Responsibility for own learning  Pride and effort with work  Behaviour and safety - walking home  School rules and consequences  Roles within the school community

  4. New Curriculum  From September 2015 Year 6 will be following the new National Curriculum and assessment arrangements.  This means that new and exciting topics will be covered in all areas of their learning.  It will also see the eradication of levels.  Children will be expected to be working ‘ at the new national standard ’ by the end of Year 6.

  5. Home Learning Expectations  To use, apply & revise the teaching and learning that take place at school  To ‘ pre ’ -learn  Monday – Maths (30 mins) and Mathletics  Wednesday – Science (30 mins)  Friday – English/topic (45 mins)  Every day read for 30 minutes  Weekly spelling challenge  HOME LEARNING CLUB – Every lunchtime

E-Safety  It is vital that you and your child understand how to be safe on the internet.  All social media sites (Facebook, Instagram etc) have age restrictions on them and children should not use these unsupervised.  https://www.thinkuknow.co.uk/parents/  Children will be using Blippar if they are not going to France.

  7. Educational Visits: • France Residential • Science Museum – Monday 19 th October • Imperial War Museum (£3): Sycamore - Monday 9 th November Juniper - Wednesday 11 th November Cedar - Monday 16 th November • National Gallery – Monday 25 th January 2016

  8. Educational Visits: • Benjamin Franklin House: Cedar – Tuesday 8 th March Juniper - Tuesday 15 th March Sycamore – Tuesday 22 nd March • Bank of England – Thursday 19 th May • London Leaver ’ s Trip 2015 (£20) – July TBC

  9. Voluntary Contributions: At Lovelace our teachers go the extra mile to give children a wealth of experiences. We benefit from the current Mayor of London ’ s free transport where possible but occasionally there are extra payments required to cover costs: • Class fund (£5- £15 per term to be paid through Scopay) • Imperial War Museum (£3) • Class of 2016 T-shirts (£12) • End of year trip (£20 + spending money) • Leaver ’ s Production Ticket (£2) Without voluntary contributions, these events cannot go ahead 

  10. Get involved! Children really value the support of the adults around them – you are their inspiration and role models! Although family life is busy, please try and find time to give your child support and guidance. Be the person you want your child to be … This may involve: helping with ideas, encouragement & praise  providing a distraction-free place to work  checking written work for spelling and punctuation  providing equipment and a quiet place to work  sharing and enjoying quality work  commenting on successes and/or any problems in a child ’ s home /  school book. Please do check your child ’ s diary daily and sign in at the end of each week attending parent / teacher evenings , VIP events, class assemblies  & PFA events continue to read to them / hear them read – share stories and news! 

Supporting Key Learning We know that your children really value your support and we thought we would show you some activities that you could use with your child at home to maximise their success and make it fun:  Miss Clarkson will demonstrate to you some spelling strategies when learning spellings  Mr. Woodman will show you strategies to secure your child ’ s learning in times tables  Miss Bryan will show you ways of supporting your child with reading at home
