A number of our faculty have served as mentors and are eager to do so again. Study Tours Recent tours include trips to Tanzania, Japan and France and Turkey. Internships Students should look at internship opportunities as early as the sophomore year. It is recommended that every student in the art department complete some kind of internship in the field.

  5. How does advising works in the department? • Each student is assigned and advisor. • Students can meet with their advisor at anytime for any reason relating to their academic progress. • Advisors have regular posted office hours. Try to make an appointment whenever possible. • When meeting your advisor for registration, work to select courses that fit the suggested sequencing recommended by the department. • From time to time advisors are on sabbatical or leave. When this occurs contact the department chair for advising. • Incidental advising happens informally all the time. Each faculty member can answer most basic questions. Usually best to talk before or after class.

  6. Recommended Courses for New Students New students should first take courses in the foundations program. These courses include: • ARTS 104 Intro to Digital Design • ARTS 125 Drawing I • ARTS 130 Two Dimensional Design • ARTS 140 Three Dimensional Design Ideally these courses should be taken in the freshman year but it is not a requirement.

  7. Recommendations for Transfer Students • Use the program sheets to determine where you are in the program. • Check with your advisor to see that all previous coursework had transferred properly. You may have usable credits for Art and non Art classes that have not been transferred properly. • Create a plan to get your prerequisites in place to take upper level course work. • If you have problems contact the Department Chair as soon as possible.

  8. Overriding a Prerequisite If you want to enroll in an upper- level course without having the exact prerequisite, you must complete the following form, allowing you to enroll in the course.
