Students are taught for the majority of their lessons in their tutor group in year 7. House families meet every week (member from year 7 through to year 13). House assemblies take place on the first and last Friday of each term. House activities and competitions are organised throughout the year.

The Role of the Tutor

  • To help your daughter if she is worried about anything.
  • To guide your daughter in terms of standards of behaviour and

encourage her to become involved in all the activities that school has to offer ….

  • To look out for any friendship issues and keep an eye on things
  • To give out notices and encourage your daughter to write important

messages in her planner

  • To encourage your daughter to arrange or support charity events
  • To be firm but fair if your daughter does something silly and gets into

trouble

  • To listen and take every worry your daughter may have seriously
  • To work closely with parents if there are any concerns
  • To work closely with Mrs Pullon, Year 7 Leader and Mrs Papper,

Assistant Year 7 Leader, to resolve all problems should they arise.

How Parents can help

  • Get in touch as soon as possible if there are any problems

big or small (e-mail or telephone)

  • Send back reply slips to letters etc. promptly
  • Look at information on the school website regularly
  • Read the fortnightly ‘Head’s Update’ to keep informed

about important information

  • Follow us on Twitter/Facebook
  • Monitor standards of uniform and remind your daughter

about rules regarding uniform (skirts to the knee please!) and make up (not allowed in year 7)

The School Day

  • We operate a 2 week timetable. Students receive a copy of

this in September to stick in their planner. Some students also make copies for home and to stick on the inside door

  • f their locker
  • School is open from 8.00a.m. – students can go to form

rooms, use ICT facilities, visit library or buy breakfast in the canteen

  • After school, students can stay in the library until 4.30p.m.

Monday to Thursday and until 4p.m. on Friday

The Music Building is shared with Marling School.

  • 2 main teaching rooms
  • Main music hall for concerts
  • Music store room with a numeric lock, where students

may store their instruments safely during the school day.

THE YEAR 7 MUSIC CURRICULUM

KS3 have three Music lessons per fortnight where students learn different practical and theoretical skills. All students learn to play the keyboard and read music, by the end of the year.

Achievements in PE 2018-2019

So far, we have achieved the following: Handball: U15 South West Champions and National Finalists U14 & U13 County Champions and Regional Finalists Swimming: National Finalists – competing at the Olympic Park and came 7th in the Country Cross Country: Regional Champions and National Finalists Dance: KS3 Squad – South West Champions and National Finalists (6th Position) KS4/5 Squad – 5th position at Regional Finals Tennis: U13 team are currently unbeaten in the LTA Schools Tennis. Football: U14 – 3rd position in the County Football Championships Netball: U15 PGL Winners U13 District Netball Champions and 2nd place at PGL Tournament

Extra curricular opportunities

School productions take place every year, alternating between the upper school and the lower school and between straight plays and musicals. This year, the lower school has just performed a Roald Dahl Double Bill of ‘The Witches’ and ‘Matilda the Musical (in 20 minutes)’ including a cast of 89 Year 7- Year 10 students!

scissors, glue stick etc.

www.stroudhigh.gloucs.sch.uk Two areas which you will find very useful: Under ‘Teaching and Learning’ click on ‘Homework’ to access homework your daughter has been set. Students should have recorded this in their planner too. Under ‘School Information’ click on ‘Parent communication’ to find copies of letters that have been sent home. Lots of other information too!

Induction Day - Friday

  • Please remind us if your daughter is not able to attend on Friday
  • Arrive around 9.15am - the girls will be met by sixth form girls

and escorted to Senior Hall (can arrive earlier than this)

  • Welcome assembly followed by tutor time
  • Four mini-lessons
  • Packed lunch on lawn (senior hall if raining) – your daughter may

want to visit the canteen to buy a drink / cookie etc.

First day of Term - September

  • Year 7 start on Tuesday 3 September
  • Don’t expect to see older girls at the bus stop / train station

as year 7 only students in school

  • Students will need writing equipment and their PE kit
  • Packed lunch or bring money to buy lunch (or a

combination of the two)

  • Students will be using cash in the canteen for the first few

days in school to give us time to process their cashless catering accounts – please ensure permission letters to take fingerprints are returned asap

  • PLEASE ENSURE YOUR DAUGHTER KNOWS WHERE HER BUS

Mobile / smart tech policy

Phones must not be used during the school day. Smart watches / fitbits are not permitted and should not be worn. Whilst they are permitted to bring a phone they must not use it at all during the day. They have lockers if they want to lock them away. We do not advise they bring an expensive phone to school with them and cannot accept responsibility for any devices they do bring in! Please do not send them with a phone on induction day.

Jo Harrison

Jo is based in student services and works closely with Mrs Pullon, Mrs Papper and Nadine Moore, Assistant Head (support care and guidance). How can Jo help?

  • See students who need a little extra support
  • Supervise students who are not able to attend lessons (lots of

different reasons for this)

  • Monitor attendance and inform parents if we are concerned
  • Support students with medical concerns
  • Liaise with Lisa Miller our pastoral welfare officer - Pastoral care

packages are offered to students with more complex needs

External Agencies

  • School Nurse

The school nurse is available for a ‘drop in’ session every two weeks. Students do not need to make an appointment, they can just arrive at the drop in and seek advice.

  • CYPS

For more complex emotional and mental health concerns, we work closely with and refer students to CYPS for specialised support and intervention

  • Educational Psychologist

Again, for more complex needs we can access educational psychologist to help us plan and support your daughter

  • If you have any questions regarding SEN

please see Mrs Moore

  • We follow a programme of screening in Y7 if

any member of staff identifies any concern, however big or small. Please do not be alarmed if your daughter is asked to participate in a screening. Most of Y7 are at some point!
