Create master list of application deadlines, LOR’s needed, financial aid & scholarship deadlines, etc. ➢ Begin working on Personal Insight Questions / essay if required. ➢ Complete “Personal Profile” if requesting a LOR from teachers/counselor (Important: you must make a copy of this document and save it to your desktop. Use your personal copy or your information will not be saved.) ○

Major Changes to UC Admissions Process ▪ UC temporarily suspended the letter grade requirement for Spring 2020 ▪ Pass grades will NOT be included in the GPA calculation, nor will they receive an extra honors point in the GPA if they are approved honors, AP or IB courses ▪ UC will assume that P (CR) grade issued by a high school is equivalent to at least a C- or better grade - spring 2020 grades only!

  8. Major Changes to the Admission Process - Standardized Testing ● UC and CSU campuses have eliminated the use of SAT and ACT scores in admissions ● Subject Tests are not required but may be submitted to demonstrate mastery.

CA Community Colleges ▪ No admission requirements ▪ First 2 Years are Free! ▪ Complete the FAFSA ▪ Enroll full-time-12 units required, 15 recommended ▪ Apply online Feb/Mar of senior year ▪ Partnership with Sierra College ▪ Enrollment Specialist and Transition Counselor ▪ Transfer agreements ▪ UC: Transfer Agreement Guarantee (TAG) ▪ CSU: AA-T and AS-T degree transfer options ▪ Transfer requirements – differ by major ▪ Use www.assist.org for California colleges

  10. WUE (Western Undergraduate Exchange) ▪ WUE is a reduced out of state tuition program ▪ Reduced tuition is not automatically awarded ▪ Participating schools might have certain specific requirements: GPA, major, etc. ▪ Refer to website for a list of participants ▪ http://wiche.edu/wue

  11. Letters of Recommendation Common App/ Coalition App or SENDedu: ➢ Process- ● Preparation ● Communication ● Personal Profile ● FERPA and invite recommenders * Allow minimum of 2 week notice to recommenders

Early Action vs. Early Decision ▪ Early Action: non-binding ▪ Restricted Early Action: non-binding but restricted from applying early action or early decision to other colleges ▪ Early Decision: binding (committed to going if accepted – never apply to more than one campus under ED) ▪ Application timeline is early for both options (usually mid-Oct. to early Nov.). Decisions by colleges are typically rendered by December.

Financial Aid ▪ FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) ▪ Recommended that ALL Seniors apply ▪ Opens: October 1, 2020 Preferred deadline: March 2, 2021 ▪ Since some colleges distribute funds based on when FAFSA was received, it is best to apply early! ▪ Cal Grants ▪ You must complete the FAFSA or Calif. Dream Act Application (CADAA) to be eligible for Cal Grants ▪ GBHS automatically submits the Cal Grant GPA verification electronically for ALL 12 th grade students ▪ Institutional Aid ▪ Pay attention to individual school aid deadlines and processes. Some require a separate application. Check college websites for this info in their Financial Aid section.

Financial Aid Reminders ● Who should apply? www.fafsa.gov or dream.csac.ca.gov • ALL students continuing their education at ANY TYPE OF COLLEGE, regardless of family income ● Apply between October 1st through March 2nd ● Important Step 1: FSA ID: fsaid.ed.gov ● Check “Outside Scholarships” list weekly on College and Career Center website ● Check with parent/guardian place of employment for scholarship opportunities ● Participate in the Local Scholarship Program (month of February) - info on College and Career Center website ● All seniors should look at college and university financial aid pages for merit scholarships and info on how to apply GET HELP!   17. FAQ’s Continued... Academic History Section (UC/CSU Applications) 1. What is this school’s term system? Answer: Semester (2 final grades per year). 2. When entering grades in application, know that: For our half year courses... UC/CSU Grade 1 = Quarter 1 or 3 at GBHS UC/CSU Grade 2 = Quarter 2 or 4 at GBHS For our yearlong courses… UC/CSU Grade 1 = Quarter 2 at GBHS UC/CSU Grade 2 = Quarter 4 at GBHS An easy way to look at this is as follows. First permanent grade in a course will be the semester 1 grade and the second permanent grade will be the semester 2 grade. Current or Most Recent Year Courses (Common Application) 1. Parchment is a secure service that allows you to place and track order online, accessible 24/7.
