General Information: Semester 1

Teaching begins Monday, 12th January, 2015 Teaching ends Saturday, 18th April, 2015 Study Week Monday, 20th April, 2015 Examinations begin Monday, 27th April, 2015 Easter break Thursday 2nd –Tuesday 7th April 2015 Examinations end Wednesday, 13th May, 2015

 Students should be available for the entire examination period as

amendments to the timetable will be made.

 Do not take subjects that clash in the timetable as examination times

will clash as well.

Assessment

 Assessment is mainly by a written final examination of two

hours

 Some courses may combine final examination with assessment

by course work such as projects or essays carrying up to 50%

  • f the available marks

 Marks are awarded out of 100%

 Examination Standards:

40% or above: Pass 50% or above: Second class honours, grade 2 60% or above: Second class honours, grade 1 (‘B’) 70% or above: First class honours (‘A’ or top grade)

Course Selection

 Courses are available from the second and final years of

full-time B.Comm. undergraduate programme and BSc Business Information Systems programme.

 Lecturers are available to assist the incoming students

regarding choice of courses.

 Each course is assigned a weight (5 or 10 ECTS), which

generally corresponds to the number of lecture hours per week.

 The normal weight of courses taken by NUI Galway

students is 30 ECTS per semester.

Course Selection Forms

 This form must be completed in addition to the Registration Form  Erasmus Students must have courses listed approved by their NUI

Galway School Coordinator to be signed before Friday, 23rd January, 2015 by 2.00 p.m.

 Course selection will take place on Monday, 26th January, 2015 in Aras

Ui Chathail (1st floor) between 9.30 am. – 1.00 p.m. and 2.00p.m. – 3 30 3.30p.m.

 Results will only be provided when the regular examinations are taken.  Change of course selection will take place on or before Monday, 2nd

February, 2015. Changes to be approved by the International Affairs Office (Visiting students) or Erasmus Co-ordinator (Erasmus students)

 Please do not book flights home until after the examination timetables

have been issued in March.
