  6. First Day of First Grade  Necessary Items  Backpack  Lunchbox  Athletic (closed toe shoes)*  NO pencil sharpeners  Items provided  Pencils, erasers  Scissors, glue  Crayons, etc.

  7. First Days of 1 st Grade  First day  Must wear name and bus tag number to school (complete rest & keep in folder)  Emergency information form  Need back ASAP! (accepting tonight)  Snacks  Allotted short snack in afternoon  Snack donations will be provided for entire class (do not bring in individual snack)  Donations accepted: graham crackers, goldfish, Cheeze-its, pretzels, Capri Suns…  Birthday treats are also accepted

  8. Lunch  Lunch = $2.00  Milk = .40  Water =.40  Pin #-  Starts @ 11:00

  15. Star of the Day!  Photographs  Souvenirs form a favorite trip  Favorite stuffed animals  Presentation =5-10 minutes  Please keep items small enough to fit into backpack  Items will be returned at the end of the day, after presentation

Curriculum: Reading  NEW Reading Series- Journeys  Stories will contain more non-fiction, informational texts, biographies  Phonics  Practice sounds of letters (beg./ end)  Vowels (short vowels, then long)  Digraphs (ch, sh, th, wh)  Blends/ Clusters (st, bl, tr…)  Compounds Words, Contractions, Possessives  Phonics Dance (to introduce ee, ea, eigh, oo, ou, ice, etc.)  Rhyming words (word families, real rhyming words)

  17. Curriculum: Reading  Comprehension  Parts of a Story- beg., middle, end  Sequence of Events- first, second, third…  Noting Details  Cause and Effect  Compare and Contrast  *Retell- characters, setting, plot

  18. Curriculum: Reading  Vocabulary Strategies  Using context clues  Classifying  Alphabetical Order  Word endings –ing, -ed  Suffixes –er, -est  Antonyms/ Synonyms  Homophones and homonyms
