Students should read for about 15-20 min. each night and complete the reading log. Homework may be done on paper or using the student’s devices, i.e. apps, google drive or google classroom. Homework will not be assigned daily. Homework could be related to skills taught in class, unfinished work or an area a student needs more work in; not all students will have the same homework, or have homework daily. Students should also practice math facts daily. Homework will be posted on Mrs. Szczurek’s website on daily basis. While homework does not have a separate grade on the report cards, the student’s work habits score will be impacted based on their frequency of homework completion.

Students will each have 1 device to assist them in instruction. The device will go home daily in a school provided bag to be charged. Please use only the chargers provided by the school to do this. If they do not work, please contact the school. It is the student’s responsibility to charge the device and bring it to school the following
Each student will have an email account for school use only. The teacher will use email to share various information and documents with the students. Students should use it for school purposes only. Each student will have access to Google Drive that will be used frequently throughout the school day. We encourage all families to purchase $25 insurance for the device to avoid higher costs
All tests will be announced; pop quizzes can take place at any point during our units. Common Formative Assessments take place in each unit, ie. projects, essays, keynotes Most math assessments will be performance based, where students will need to explain their work and or problem solve to demonstrate their learning. 4th grade assessments this year: aFAST (math and reading) Fountas and Pinnell Benchmark Assessment (fluency and comprehension) PARCC (reading and math) CoGAT Report cards assessments applicable to the report card descriptors
Birthday treats are optional. Students are NOT allowed to bring in FOOD items to share with their classmates. Some options for non food treats include: stickers, pencils, bookmarks, craft kits. Please let the teacher know at least one day in advance in you plan on sending in something to be passed out to celebrate your child’s birthday.
