slide-11
SLIDE 11

What are others doing to address the challenges?

 About 1/3 of high schools are pursuing a change in bell

schedule (or have changed recently)

 About 1/3 of high schools don’t need to change as they

already have a bell schedule that accommodates a 24 credit high school diploma

 About 1/3 of districts have requested the two year

waiver from the State Board of Education delaying implementation of new requirements Source: Association of Washington School Principals

11

slide-12
SLIDE 12

What is happening across the state?

 62% of high schools are sitting on a 6 period day

  • Mostly 3A and 4A comprehensive HS
  • More rural schools are using a 7-8 period day

 38% of high schools are using a 4X8, 4X4 block or seven

period/block schedule

 School Districts/High Schools have adopted or considering

a 3X5 Trimester schedule

  • Kelso, Sunnyside, Seattle, Renton, Eastmont, Aberdeen, Lake

Washington, Port Angeles, Shelton, and others.

 88 school districts have applied for a 2 year waiver delaying

implementation of CORE 24
