IQUIST Seminar CALENDAR OF EVENTS http://physics.illinois.edu/bluesheet.asp Welcome to Fall 2020: to get Zoom meeting details for seminars Title: "Connecting and scaling semiconductor quantum systems" please email jbenner@illinois.edu or bullwink@Illinois.edu Speaker: Jelena Vuckovic, Stanford University Tuesday, September 22: IQUIST Seminar “Connecting and scaling semiconductor quantum systems”: Jelena Vukovic, Stanford 11:00 Date: September 22, 2020 Time: 11:00 am via Zoom am – via Zoom Abstract: At the core of most quantum technologies, including quantum Tuesday, September 22: Condensed Matter Journal Club: networks, quantum computers and quantum simulators, is the development of " Topological Entanglement Entropy and Quantum Spin Liquids ”: homogeneous, long lived qubits with excellent optical interfaces, and the Shengzhu Yin, UIUC 4:00 pm – via Zoom development of high efficiency and robust optical interconnects for such qubits. To achieve this goal, we have been studying color centers in diamond (SiV, Wednesday, September 23: Physics Colloquium: “The Life and SnV) and silicon carbide (VSi in 4H SiC), in combination with novel fabrication death of Turbulence” Nigel Goldenfeld, UIUC, 4: 00 pm - via Zoom techniques, and relying on the powerful and fast photonics inverse design approach that we have developed. We illustrate this with a number of demonstrated devices, including efficient quantum emitter-photon interfaces for color centers in diamond and in SiC.

  3. Job Opportunity The Physics Department at the University of California, Berkeley is conducting an open search to fill a tenure-track faculty position for an Assistant Professor in Soft Condensed Matter with an expected start date of July 1, 2021. 4. Condensed Matter Journal Club CALENDAR OF EVENTS http://physics.illinois.edu/bluesheet.asp Title: " Topological Entanglement Entropy and Quantum Spin Liquids" Welcome to Fall 2020: to get Zoom meeting details for seminars please email jbenner@illinois.edu or bullwink@Illinois.edu Speaker: Shengzhu Yin Tuesday, September 22: IQUIST Seminar “Connecting and scaling Date: September 22, 2020 Time: 4:00 pm via Zoom semiconductor quantum systems”: Jelena Vukovic, Stanford 11:00 am – via Zoom Abstract: Quantum spin liquids (QSL) are phases that show strongly interacting spins often observed in frustrated magnets. QSLs carry interesting Tuesday, September 22: Condensed Matter Journal Club: " Topological Entanglement Entropy and Quantum Spin Liquids ”: properties like long-ranged entanglement and fractional statistics. Shengzhu Yin, UIUC 4:00 pm – via Zoom Furthermore, it is known that even at low (or zero) temperatures, QSL does not have classical Landau order parameters to characterize the phase. However, Wednesday, September 23: Physics Colloquium: “The Life and recent development in topological entanglement entropy allows us to detect death of Turbulence” Nigel Goldenfeld, UIUC, 4: 00 pm - via Zoom such topological orders in QSLs, and one can even extract fractional braiding statistics from anyonic quasiparticles. I will start by introducing what is (topological) entanglement entropy. Then I will discuss how one can diagnose QSLs and extract braiding statistics using such tool with examples. The Zoom link will be sent to the Graduate Student and PDRA mailing lists. If you are not on one of those lists and are interested in attending, please email Mark Hirsbrunner at hrsbrnn2@illinois.edu for the link.
