Helping your son/daughter to unlock their full potential

slide-14
SLIDE 14

Setting target grades

we want our students to be aspirational we encourage and support them to strive to achieve the highest grades that they can

slide-15
SLIDE 15
  • We set them individual targets
  • Minimum Target Grades (MTG)
  • Based upon their GCSE grades
  • Aspirational, challenging, but

achievable!

slide-16
SLIDE 16

Calculating the GCSE Points on Entry Score

Each GCSE is given a score … A* = 8 A = 7 B = 6 C = 5 D = 4 E = 3 F = 2 G = 1 U = 0 Add up the total score and divide by the number of GCSEs This gives their GCSE points score on entry…

slide-17
SLIDE 17

Calculating MTGs We use ALPS

(Advanced Level Performance Systems)

to calculate MTGs

slide-18
SLIDE 18

Calculating MTGs

  • Take the GCSE points on entry score
  • Compare to the tens of thousands of

students nationally with the same GCSE points score to see what grades they achieved.

  • Select the grades which would put them in

the top 25% of those students.

  • Set this as the MTG.
slide-19
SLIDE 19

Recap

  • MTG = Minimum target grade
  • Aspirational, challenging

targets to strive to achieve

  • not maximum target grade
  • not predicted grades
slide-20
SLIDE 20
  • They attend all lessons - attendance
  • f 90% (or 10% absence) costs a grade
  • They turn up on time, ready to work

with the right equipment

  • They are well organised - they know

when to study, when to socialise and when they can do part-time work

  • They know their MTG and make

sure all work and assignments are at least this standard How do students achieve their MTG or better?

slide-21
SLIDE 21
  • They ask for help when they need it

and don’t run away from their problems

  • They know that what really matters

is hard work not being a genius

  • Their lecturers and personal tutors

provide feedback that tell them how to improve and help them solve their problems How do students achieve their MTG or better?
