TECHNOLOGY AT MIDDLE SCHOOL iPads – All students have iPads (1:1) – Cell phones are NOT necessary. – iPad internet is filtered (smartphones are not) – Keyboard and pencil – Airpods are highly discouraged to bring to school Schoology – Online communication with teachers / students – Lessons / materials posted in class folders

  5. CMS NORTH BELL SCHEDULE • School Hours • Drop-off: 7:30am-8:00am • First Bell: 8:00am (please arrive before first bell) • School start time: 8:10am • School end time: 3:35pm • Last Bell: 3:45pm • All students must be picked up by 4:00pm.

  7. TRANSFERS • Intra-district transfer request forms must be completed EVERY year. • If your student will be at North on a transfer of ANY kind, you MUST complete the CISD transfer request form this spring to attend North.

  8. STATE AND LOCAL ASSESSMENTS • STAAR Math 6 and Reading 6 • Not an SSI year (student success initiative) – Istation- reading comprehension – MAP Testing (Measure of Academic Progress) – administered twice a year. Once at the beginning, once mid year.

  9. MIDDLE SCHOOL REQUIREMENTS • 2 complete years of PE/Athletics/Off Campus PE • 1 year of Fine Arts – Art, Band, Choir or Theatre • Endorsement Explorations (iExplore) class in 7 th grade, which is a locally developed course to fulfill HB18 Middle School requirements.

MATH ACCELERATION BY CBE • Regardless of the testing date for a CBE for acceleration, placement in a new course will only take place at the beginning of a school year. • Although there is no study guide, parents/learners may access the Texas Education Agency's website to view the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) covered in the exams. • To register for the math acceleration test please talk with your elementary school counselor for the CBE application. • Available CBE’s include Math 6 and Math 7. All CBE’s are offered as on level credit. Honors credit is not awarded for Credit By Exams. • https://www.coppellisd.com/Page/523 • Math Acceleration Testing Dates – April 30th and June 2 nd - July 14 th and July 15 th

  14. 6 TH GRADE ELECTIVES • Learners can select two electives in 6 th grade – PE / Off Campus PE – Art A (learners will draw, paint, sculpt, use printmaking techniques, and be introduced to graphic art) – Band (fitting appointment required, members learn how to play a wind, brass, or percussion instrument) – Choir (Treble Choir is 6 th / 7 th grade girls. Boys Choir is 6 th /7 th /8 th boys. Performance class, open to all 6th grade learners who enjoy singing and performing ) – Theatre A (experience the basic elements of drama, beginning acting techniques, and performing for an audience.) – Spanish II Honors (for elementary DLI students) – Creative Writing/Reading Studio (various fictional styles such as prose, poetry, and drama through self-selected and guided reading choices) (Designated support classes will take an elective choice)

PHYSICAL EDUCATION • Learners must have two years of PE in middle school (OCPE, PE, Athletics) • PE –focuses on fitness, health, and wellness, organized games • OCPE – outside of the school day • Two categories (5 or 15 hours) • Must be 5 days a week August – June (entire school year) • The OCPE application can be found on CMS North website under Academics and Off Campus PE or by clicking HERE • The online application is due by August 14th

  16. IMPORTANT DATES • March 4th & 5th: Counselor Visits to Elementary campuses– course selection worksheet goes home • March 6-20: Online registration open through PARENT HAC • March 20: Course selection sheets due to 5 th grade teacher

Course Requests - Parents log in to the Home Access Center (HAC) using your PARENT account ( https://hac.coppellisd.com ) - If you do not know how to log in to HAC go to the North website, choose “Parents” then “technology systems guide” - Click on classes and then on the “requests” tab to access the registration page: - Rank electives in priority 1-5 on the paper registration form. The top TWO electives go into HAC. - Core classes are preloaded. You will select your Math course and counselors will adjust for GT when necessary - You must click SAVE after each course is selected.

  18. SCHEDULE PICKUP • Pick up your schedule • Join PTO • Purchase PE uniforms • Purchase Spirit wear • Pay for school supplies • Schedule pick-up will be in August. Please watch for updates on our website this summer for specific dates/times

  19. BEFORE SCHEDULE PICK UP • You will receive an email this summer instructing you to update the following: • Update Power School Registration • Have current Proof of Residency ready to bring • Current utility bill • Updated lease or settlement statement • Current Vaccinations
