Bendigo Hospital Project • The Victorian Government has committed $630 million for the redevelopment of the Bendigo hospital • The project is the largest regional hospital development in Victoria’s history • It will have considerable long term positive economic benefits, not just for Bendigo but for the wider region • The facilities are being delivered as a public-private partnership (PPP) under the State Government’s Partnerships Victoria policy, with the Exemplar Health consortium as the private sector partner.

  3. Bendigo Hospital Project regional significance • This is more than just the redevelopment of a hospital. Bendigo Health, Exemplar Health and the State Government are working in partnership to deliver a state-of-the art, world class regional health care precinct for the people of the Loddon Mallee region • Bendigo Health is one of the largest employers in Bendigo. The Bendigo Hospital Project will expand employment opportunities in Bendigo not only during the project (up to 770 direct construction jobs) but beyond 2016 (1,000 extra staff).

Bendigo Hospital Project Leveraging the benefits • The State Government has provided $350,000 for the Leveraging the Benefits of the Bendigo Hospital Project • A steering group has been established improve local career opportunities, support local businesses wanting to secure work on the redevelopment project and ensure the local economy maximises the benefits of project • The steering group includes the City of Greater Bendigo, Bendigo Health, Bendigo Business Council, Department of Health, Industry Capability Network, Loddon Mallee Regional Development Australia Committee and Regional Development

Bendigo Hospital Project Leveraging the benefits • The project will focus on: • increasing local apprenticeships and workers employed in the construction • ensuring local construction and supply chain businesses tender for contracts • growing local construction and construction industry supply chain businesses.

  7. Bendigo Hospital Project The project will deliver a new hospital based on the Barnard Street site, with superior architectural outcome, including an integrated cancer centre and integrated mental health facilities.

  8. Bendigo Hospital Project The development comprises a whole of precinct solution - ‘one precinct, one hospital’. A bridge across Arnold Street will integrate the precinct into one site.

Bendigo Hospital Project The project will also deliver: • A childcare centre • A wellness centre • 128 serviced apartments • 15 apartment short stay accommodation • 180 seat conference facility • A large atrium as the hospital entrance with retail and cafes and additional internal courtyards • Enhanced landscaping across the entire hospital precinct • Refurbishment and re-use of some heritage buildings • Latest integrated technology nurse call system.

  10. Bendigo Hospital Project Construction is commencing in 2013 and will be completed by 2016.
