A Day in The Life of a Manvel Maverick Students attend 7 classes each day School hours are 7:20 - 2:50 Classes are 55 minutes long 5 minute passing periods (class transitions) 3 lunch periods (A.B,C) Each student is assigned a Counselor, Assistant Principal and Attendance Clerk according to your last name

Credits and Classification Classification Semester Credits Earned Freshman less than 6 credits Sophomore 6 Credits Junior 12 credits Senior 19 Credits Students earn 0.5 credit for each semester that he/she earns a 70% or above in a course (0.5 1st semester + 0.5 2nd semester = 1.0 credit for a full-year course)

Foundation Plan + Endorsement Credits Subject Area Distinguished Level of Achievement (DLA) 4 English (English I, English II, English III and Advanced English 4 Math (Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, and an Advanced Math) Must include Alg. 2 4 Science (Biology, and 3 Advanced Science credits) 3 Social Studies (W. Geo. or W. Hist., US Hist., Govt. and Econ) 2 LOTE (2 credits of Languages other than English) 1 Fine Art (Art, Choir, Band, Theater, Principles of Floral Design) 1 PE 7 Electives TOTAL 26 CREDITS Must Graduate with DLA to qualify for Top 10% Automatic Admissions

Distinguished Level of Achievement The Distinguished Level of Achievement requires: 4 credits in math including Algebra II ○ 4 credits in science ○ All Foundation High School Program requirements ○ At least one endorsement ○ To be eligible for the top 10% automatic college admissions, students must earn Distinguished Level of Achievement.

  11. What is an Endorsement? A career pathway (in college terms it’s a major) ● An opportunity to study an area of interest prior to college ● Consists of a cohesive sequence of 4 elective courses in a selected pathway ● Student’s earned endorsements will appear on their high school transcript ● Student’s could earn more than one endorsement ● Arts & Humanities Business & Public Services S.T.E.M Multidisciplinary Industry Studies Fine Arts Agriculture Education & Training Science (5 credits) Advanced Courses Foreign Language Construction Health Science Technology (Comp. Social Studies (5 credits) Audio/Visual Arts Human Services Sci./CAD) 4 Credits in each Business, Mkt., & Cosmetology/Barbering Engineering core subject area Finance Law Enforcement Mathematics (5 credits) Hospitality & Tourism JROTC 4 Credits AP/DC Info. Performance Acknowledgements A student may earn a performance acknowledgement by: Earning 12 dual credit hours with GPA 3.0 or higher ● Proficient bilingualism or biliteracy ● Earning a 3 or higher on an AP exam ● Outstanding performance on PSAT, SAT or ACT ● Earning a nationally or internationally recognized business or industry ● certification or license.

  13. State Testing Standards ALL Students are required to take and pass five End of Course (EOC) exams to be eligible for graduation. Algebra 1, English 1, English 2, Biology, US History

  14. Earning College Credit while in High School Students have an opportunity to earn college credits by taking AP and or Dual Credit courses. Advanced Placement Credit earned by passing AP exam. Exam scores and credit awarded varies with each university. ● Texas public universities will award credit for AP scores of 3 or higher at the discretion of the ● university. Dual Credit Offered through Alvin Community College ● Placement test required prior to enrolling in courses ● Cost = $25 per credit hour plus textbooks ● Opportunity to graduate with both high school diploma and Associate's Degree ●

  15. What is Class GPA/Class Rank Class Rank is a way to see how your academic achievements measure up to those of your classmates. GPA stands for Grade Point Average. It is a standard way of measuring academic achievement. Each semester grade earned is assigned to a grade point depending on the grade and level of instruction of the course. (see chart on next slide)

PreAP and AP Courses ● PreAP and AP Courses are open to all students - please seek advice during your 4 year plan meeting. ● Students need to complete the Pre AP/AP contract on the HS Campus Advanced Academics page if selecting these courses. ● You will not be able to request a change until weeks 7-9, and only after attending tutorials and demonstrating educational need. ● Some of the PreAP and AP courses have summer assignments - be sure to inquire before the end of the school year. ● AP courses indicate to 4 year universities that a student is prepared for the rigors of college. ● Human Geography and Computer Science Principles are the recommended introductory AP Courses for Freshmen. ● Students may be able to receive college credit with an AP Exam score of 3, 4 or 5 Please contact your JH or HS Advanced Academics Specialist with any questions . ●
