Towards the Podium, 2017 onwards

Qualifying a rider for

Olympic Games

was one of our goals when we formed the team. We have achieved it within three years. We now set our sights on becoming more competitive and reaching for the podium.

Seeing the realisation of one our riders, Phetetso Monese, lining up with the world’s best riders at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games was a proud milestone for our team. Now that we have achieved one of our initial goals of qualifying a rider for Olympic Games, it is time to set our sights on higher achievements and becoming more competitive. For the period 2017-2022, our goals are: -

  • To achieve a ranking of at least top 20 team in the world.
  • To achieve qualification of at least two riders for Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
  • To achieve a gold medal performance at African Continental Championship.
  • To achieve a podium/ medal performance at Durban 2022 Commonwealth Games.

In order to achieve these goals, we plan to: -

  • Become a regular and recognised team at UCI Internationally accredited MTB

races, such as UCI MTB World Cup, World/ Continental Championships, UCI Honours Class, Class 1 and Class 2 races.

  • Forge partnerships with world-leading brands to gain access to high-tech, cutting

edge, innovative equipment and performance-gaining techniques.

  • Activate widespread grass-roots talent identification programmes to uncover new

potential talent amongst boys and girls in Lesotho and neighbouring developing countries.

  • Create a platform to develop emerging young mountain bike riders from other African

nations that do not already have a mountain bike programme in place.

About Us:

ACE Lesotho MTB Team is a UCI MTB Team with a difference. The purpose of the team is to identify cycling talent from the developing nations of Africa, particularly Lesotho, and give those riders an opportunity to cycle on the world’s biggest MTB

  • stages. We have a proven record of seeing young riders aspiring to big dreams,

developing self-confidence and rising above the poverty and hopelessness that they were born into. Four of the current team members have lost either one or both parents, which is not uncommon in a country with such a high HIV/AIDS rate.

The Mountain Kingdom of Lesotho

Lesotho has great potential to produce good MTB riders. Its high altitude, mountain topography and climate is an ideal breeding ground for champions. The high-altitude areas

  • f Ethiopia and Kenya have historically produced great runners and Colombia is now yielding

brilliant cyclists with a good power to rate ratio and natural VO2 max. There is justified

  • ptimism to believe that Lesotho can produce world class athletes in the future if given the

right support.

Great Brand Ambassadors

OUR TEAM IS DIFFERENT! We stand out from the rest of the crowd and provide your brand with great ambassadors. The polite and courteous upbringing of our riders leads them to be natural appreciative and loyal ambassadors. The stunning scenery of Lesotho, which is renowned for its harsh nature, also provides a great backdrop for you to highlight your brand.

History of Success

Since the team was formed in 2014, we have remained as the first and only African team to be licensed as an International Cycling Union Mountain Bike Team and to compete in World Cup/ World Championship level competition. Despite our lowly beginnings, we currently rank inside the top 40 teams in the world. Fresh from competition at RIO 2016 Olympic Games qualification , we now set our sights towards Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games and Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
