‘O’ Level Art, D&T or F&N

  • Consideration for offering new subject:

– Broad-based education catering to varying aptitudes and interests

  • The new subject may be offered if the minimum class size is

fulfilled.

  • Students may indicate their non-committal interest in the upcoming

subject combination survey

Achieved a B Grade for Sec 2 Literature

Achieved a B Grade for Sec 2 English Language  Triple Science

Principles of Allocation

slide-22
SLIDE 22

We nurture Students to Think, Care and Lead with P.R.I.D.E. Passion . Resilience . Integrity . Dare to Try . Empathy

Principles

  • Overall Percentage at Sec 2 and combination criteria
  • Based on overall Sec 2 performance so students who perform better will have

priority (ranked first) over those who don’t perform as well MERIT

  • Combinations chosen in ranked order; 1st choice will be considered if your

results meet the subject criteria CHOICE

  • Availability of places in a particular combination; subjects offered depends on:
  • Take-up rate – a subject will not be offered if the take-up rate is not met.
  • Availability of teachers – a subject will have a maximum cohort size if too many

students opt for it. VACANCY

slide-23
SLIDE 23

We nurture Students to Think, Care and Lead with P.R.I.D.E. Passion . Resilience . Integrity . Dare to Try . Empathy

  • Rank all students in same stream based on Overall

Percentage

  • The 1st-in-Standard student will be the first to be

allocated his eligible choice combination

  • For example – Sec 2 Express student
  • His 1st Option is Pure Geography Combination.
  • To be offered the combination, he should meet the

criteria i.e. achieve a B Grade for Geography.

Allocation Process – an illustration

slide-24
SLIDE 24

We nurture Students to Think, Care and Lead with P.R.I.D.E. Passion . Resilience . Integrity . Dare to Try . Empathy

  • If he meets the criteria for Double Humanities

(Geography), he will be allocated the 1st Option.

  • If he scores below the criteria for Double Humanities

(Geography), he cannot be allocated the 1st Option.

  • So we will look at his 2nd Option.
  • For example, his 2nd Option is Triple Science.

Allocation Process – an illustration

slide-25
SLIDE 25

We nurture Students to Think, Care and Lead with P.R.I.D.E. Passion . Resilience . Integrity . Dare to Try . Empathy

Allocation Process – an illustration

  • If he meets the Triple Science criteria, he will be
  • ffered his 2nd Option.
  • This case closes and we proceed to allocate the 2nd-

in-Standard Student.

  • Allocation process repeats until he gets a subject

combination assigned to him.

slide-26
SLIDE 26

We nurture Students to Think, Care and Lead with P.R.I.D.E. Passion . Resilience . Integrity . Dare to Try . Empathy

  • We proceed to 3rd-in-Standard student and allocate

him.

  • The process continues until the last student in the

standard gets allocated.

  • The allocation process for Sec 2 Express and N(A) is

the same.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS

Project Work [H1] General Paper [H1] Knowledge & Inquiry [H2]

DISCIPLINES

Languages [H1/H2/H3] Mathematics & Science [H1/H2/H3] Humanities & Arts [H1/H2/H3]

The sections in white are compulsory. You must take either GP or KI. You must take subjects across the 3 disciplines – with a contrasting subject.

  • f curriculum time

Studied at advanced level

Subjects with diverse learning opportunities for in-depth study (e.g. advanced content, research paper, university module). H1 SUBJECT & H2 SUBJECTS (1 CONTRASTING)

  • r
  • Optional. If you take the H3

paper, you must offer the corresponding subject at H2 level.

H1 SUBJECT & H2 SUBJECTS (1 CONTRASTING)

Equivalent to the pre-2006 AO, A & S papers respectively.

slide-38
SLIDE 38

We nurture Students to Think, Care and Lead with P.R.I.D.E. Passion . Resilience . Integrity . Dare to Try . Empathy

Considering Subject Combination

with A Level in mind

Not all JCs will allow you to take the H2 subjects if you have not taken the subjects at ‘O’ level

E.g., if you have not taken Pure Geography, you may not be offered H2 Geography at ‘A’ level.

Double Humanities/ Double Science Combinations are the most flexible foundation (broad-based)

It is compulsory to take ONE CONTRASTING SUBJECT from another disciplinary area.

3 Humanities subjects + 1 Science/Math subject. 1 Humanities subject + 3 Math/Science subjects. KI + 3 subjects from same discipline

Triple Science is NOT a prerequisite to read Medicine at university

You only need to have studied Chemistry and 1 other Science subject (Physics / Biology) Chemistry is compulsory in Swiss Cottage, so you can do Medicine regardless of which combination you are allocated
