Ø 200 Meuro in 2018/ 2019 for public private collaborations. Ø 160 for 9 Topsectors – 30MEuro for Chemistry. Ø 40 Meuro for “Cross-Over” – Cross Topsectoral. Ø Topsector Cross-Over Call 70% NWO, 30% private (50/50 Cash/ In-kind) – Max NWO 10 Meuro • Need for representatives of the complete value chain • Cross-over (linked to at least 2-3 Topsectors) • Clear link to Societal Challenges • Besides Academia, special attention to MKB, HBO, TNO and partners likely able to • validate the new “sciences” in practice. 3

Part of “Evidence Based Sensing” initiative. Ø The SoS cross-over program Ø bridges Topsectors Life Sciences & Health (LSH), Chemistry, Agro&Food and High Tech Systems & Materials (HTSM) and has affinity with Topsectors Energy, Water & Creative industry ü relates to NWA routes, e.g. “Personalized Medicine; uitgaan van individu” & “Smart Industry”, “Duurzame productie van gezond en veilig voedsel” en “Meten & Detecteren: altijd, alles en overal”. Ø The “Sense of Sensing” (SoS) program focusses on ü Development & Validation of (TRL 2-5 ~ 25% & TRL 5-9 ~ 75% R&D) novel sensing concepts ü Societal challenges related to the climate action, environment, resource efficiency and raw materials, while reaching out to Health, wellbeing, food security, sustainable agriculture, marine and the bio-economy. Specific attention to “New technology Acceptance” ü SoS bridges, the roadmaps of the TKIs LSH, Chemistry, Agri & Food & HTSM.

CNT&D – TICOAST EBS II program in “NWO Topsector Cross-Over funding scheme” Positive Feedback received from NWO 14 February 2019 ü 18 Expressions of Interest submitted in Phase I, ü 13 preselected approx. 6 à 7 will be granted. ü Criteria – a. Degree of Crossover, b. Potential Societal & Economic Impact, c. Quality of Consortium. Feedback on Degree of Crossover & Potential Societal - Economic Impact ü Overtuigd van de cross-over in dit voorstel binnen de technische disciplines. Ook is er een duidelijke en realistische cross over tussen HTSM, Chemistry, LSH & Agro & Food. Ook link met verschillende NWA routes. ü Potentiële maatschappelijke en/of economische impact op de meest aanwezige maatschappelijke uitdaging in het onderzoeksvoorstel ü Het is een goed georganiseerd onderzoeksvoorstel waarin sensing technologie voorop staat en geïntegreerd is in verschillende disciplines in relatie tot de gezondheid. ü Het centraal stellen van sensing en betere detectie van moleculaire readouts met goedkope handzame technologie heeft in potentie een enorme impact in de genoemde gebieden.

CNT&D – TICOAST EBS II program in “NWO Topsector Cross-Over funding scheme” Feedback on Quality of the Consortium ü De aanvragers geven een sterke en geloofwaardige samenvatting. Uit elke van de domeinen komen sterke mede-aanvragers met sterke wetenschappelijke CV’s. Op elk van de gebieden lijken de betrokken wetenschappers aan de top van hun vakgebied te staan. Een zeer goed en kundig consortium, waarbij de organisatie en betrokkenheid goed is weergegeven. Ook is er ruime verwachte cofinanciering. Advies van de beoordelingscommissie om “volledige aanvraag uit te werken en meer aandacht te geven voor de volgende aspecten: Ø Het is voor de beoordelingscommissie onduidelijk hoe de verschillende WP's met elkaar samenwerken en hoe de resultaten worden geïntegreerd. Het advies is om de samenhang tussen de WPs concreter te beschrijven in het uitgewerkte voorstel. Ø Het voorstel verbindt verschillende topsectoren, maar als je kijkt naar de expertise van de partners, dan ligt de focus voornamelijk bij de topsector Chemie. Hoewel er wordt genoemd dat partners in design en social sciences betrokken worden, staat niet in het voorstel beschreven hoe dit zal gebeuren en zijn ze niet onderdeel van het consortium. Het advies is om het consortium uit te breiden met partners op deze gebieden. Het advies is ook om de mate van crossover tussen deze verschillende gebieden te verduidelijken.

Two Main Challenges – applicable for all Topsectors & linked to societal challenges. a. Social acceptance & impact of new/ novel (sensing) technologies in society (Sensors at home for “diabetes, or cancer patients”), industry (construction – particle exposure and safety risks perception, operators in industrial (chemical & Food, Agro) setting) and Food safety or production (food waste, use of expiry date). b. Technological (generic) challenges with respect to performance of sensors; feedback from the market and their needs (robustness, selectivity, sensitivity,…..)
