Grade 7 Immunization Program

  • The Middlesex-London Health Unit provides grade 7 students

attending schools in the region the opportunity to receive immunizations for three vaccine preventable diseases:

  • Meningococcal-C-ACYW (Menactra)
  • Hepatitis B
  • Human Papillomavirus (HPV)
  • Two clinics are offered at each school to accommodate the two-dose

schedule of immunizations for Hepatitis B and HPV. First clinics occur in the fall/winter followed by second clinics in the spring.

  • The Health Unit was unable to provide spring clinics due to COVID-19

related school closures. Therefore, students missed receiving their second doses of Hepatitis B and HPV vaccines. Those that were absent for fall/winter clinics also missed Meningococcal-C-ACYW vaccine.

Grade 7 Immunization Program

Options for Students to Receive Missed Immunizations

  • 1. Booking an appointment with their healthcare provider
  • HCP offices can order these immunizations from the Health Unit for students who

were in Grade 7 during the 2019-2020 school year (born in 2007)

  • HCPs are required to report administration of doses back to the Health Unit for

accountability purposes (complete the form included with each order). This will also help decrease the chance of repeat immunizations.

  • 2. Booking an appointment at the Health Unit’s Immunization Clinic
  • Families can visit the Health Unit’s website to request an appointment
  • 3. School Immunization Clinics
  • 2019-2020 grade 7 students will be provided an opportunity to receive missed

doses when the Health Unit returns to their school during the next school year

  • Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to

contact the Vaccine Preventable Disease Team at 519-663-5317.

Face Coverings

  • New evidence shows that people who wear face masks

and those around them are MORE likely to stay apart 2 metres and prevent the spread of COVID-19.

  • Due to this evidence the Middlesex-London Health Unit is

now recommending that individuals wear a non-medical face masks in all public spaces, including retail, food, and commercial establishments.

  • It is still recommended for health care workers to wear the

appropriate personal protective equipment when working with patients.

Establishment of a Social Circle

  • The concept is intended as a way to slowly expand the number of

people outside your household that you can come in close contact without physical distancing.

  • Social circles should consist of no more than 10 individuals
  • The government has created a step-by-step guide on how to build a

social circle. Steps include:

  • Step 1: Start with your current circle: the people you live with or who

regularly come into your household.

  • Step 2: If your current circle is under 10 people, you can add members to

your circle, including another household, family members or friends.

  • Step 3: Get agreement from everyone that they will join the circle.
  • Step 4: Keep your social circle safe. Maintain physical distancing with
