Pivotal LNG – A part of Southern Company Gas

  • Pivotal LNG is a wholly owned subsidiary of Southern Company Gas

(Formerly AGL Resources)

  • We own and operate natural gas liquefaction facilities that sell LNG as a clean,

safe, economical fuel for transportation and other uses

  • Southern Company Gas has a rich history that spans more than 150 years.

Today, we continue to build upon our reputation as a leader in the natural gas

  • industry. Based in Atlanta GA, we serve 4.5 million customers in 7 states.
  • Southern Company Gas business segments consist of natural gas distribution
  • perations, retail operations, wholesale services and midstream operations.

What is LNG?

  • LNG is the same natural gas that 65 million Americans use in

their homes, condensed into liquid form

  • Turning natural gas into a liquid gives LNG a very high

energy density

  • 1 cubic foot of LNG is equal to 600 cubic feet of natural gas

vapor (600 to 1 ratio)

  • LNG is a very pure form of natural gas - pipeline impurities

drop out in the liquefaction process leaving 90% + methane

LNG is safe and environmentally friendly

  • LNG is not flammable – only natural gas vapor in a concentration
  • f 5% to 15% gas vapor to air is flammable
  • LNG is not toxic or corrosive
  • If LNG is spilled, it quickly vaporizes and rises safely into the air
  • LNG is not under high pressure - stored at atmospheric pressure

to 200 PSI

  • LNG is very cold (-260 degrees at 0 psi) but it is safe to handle

with minimal personal protective equipment.

Some applications currently served by Pivotal LNG

On-Highway

  • UPS - fueling truck fleets

in:

  • Nashville, TN
  • Knoxville, TN
  • Jacksonville, FL

Marine

  • Tote Maritime – Two new

container ships now fueling with LNG in Jacksonville, FL

LNG and L-CNG stations are simple and can be deployed anywhere, similar to diesel

13

LNG can also be used for CNG applications

  • LNG can be used as a supply for a compressed natural gas (CNG) station

when proximity to a large natural gas pipeline or ample electrical supply for compression is not available

  • This is known as L-CNG

LNG is used as a fuel in a variety of applications

  • Heavy Duty On-Highway Trucks
  • Marine Vessels (Ocean and River)
  • Rail
  • Industrial Process Equipment
  • Mining / Aggregate/ Heavy Equipment
  • Oil and Gas Drilling Equipment
  • Mobile Power Generation

Key Takeaways

  • LNG is not new, it has been used to backup the natural gas pipeline

system for 50 years

  • LNG is a safe, natural, environmentally friendly fuel. The same natural

gas you use at home, but in a portable liquid form.

  • LNG can be deployed anywhere diesel is currently used. No pipeline or

electrical infrastructure required

  • LNG is successfully being used in the southeast to fuel trucks,

locomotives and ships
