What Is the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program?
- A two-year program for students beginning in grade 11 who elect to
pursue this comprehensive credential
- A six-discipline integrated program that requires students to apply
learned skills
- IB program includes: Extended Essay , Theory of Knowledge, and
Creativity, Action, & Service
- Allows each student to design a program of study based on his/her
strengths

Theory of Knowledge (TOK)
- TOK is a course which connects all areas of
the IB curriculum model
- The course centers around the philosophy of
learning
- Students learn how to question what they
know in all areas of knowledge (scientific, artistic, mathematical and historical)
- The course promotes critical thinking and
provides students with an awareness of themselves as thinkers
Extended Essay
- In-depth independent research on a focused
topic of student’s choice
- Teaches students how to find, read, evaluate
and write about research
- Engages in all stages of the writing process:
drafting, revising, editing, and final product (4000 words)
- Prepares students for undergraduate writing
across curriculum areas
- Student works with mentor teacher during two
year period
Creativity, Action, Service (CAS)
- A program that balances the academic
requirements with extra-curricular experiences
- Encourages personal development in a variety
- f areas
- Can be through the arts, sports, or community
service
- Develops self-awareness, empathy, and
responsibility
- Promotes capacity to work effectively with

- Uses multiple forms of assessments
–Internal assessments are teacher- developed and scored throughout the course of study –External assessments are IB developed and scored; normally at end of course of study
