Scenario

  • A 7.7 magnitude earthquake
  • Four FEMA regions (IV, V, VI, VII)
  • Eight states

(IL, IN, KY, TN, AL, MS, AR, MO)

Summary Results

  • TN, AR, and MO are most severely

impacted

  • Extensive damage and substantial

travel delays in Memphis and St Louis

  • IL and KY are effected, but not as bad
  • Nearly 715,000 buildings damaged
  • 42,000 SAR personnel are needed
  • 3,500 damaged bridges
  • 3,500 damaged bridges
  • 425,000 breaks and leaks in pipelines
  • 2.6M households without power
  • 86,000 injuries and fatalities
  • 130 hospital are damaged
  • 15 major bridges are unusable

After three days 7.2M people are still displaced 2M people seek temporary shelter Direct economic losses = $300B Indirect economic losses may be at least $600B
