  2. Sustainability: Ensuring enough for all forever… ...by improving: ฀ Awareness ฀ Conservation ฀ Efficiency Areas of possible focus on campus sustainability: ○ Energy use ○ Water use ○ Landfill waste (including food waste) ○ Transportation to/from campus ○ Other

  3. What is a design challenge? You are presented with a problem, and you work in a team to find a solution. What's the goal? To propose a solution that will help promote good practices of environmental sustainability here on our campus. Your solution should be in the form of a concept proposal and development plan that addresses one of the priority areas identified. What kind of solution? The format is up to your team. Maybe it's a physical thing, or a smartphone app, a process modification or an educational campaign. No limit to the form your solution can take!

  4. Who's on a team? Teams will be multidisciplinary, representing at least two areas of study: arts/humanities, sciences/health care, and business/social science. How are proposals judged? Your team's proposal will be judged on its feasibility, impact, and innovation by a panel of expert judges with backgrounds in sustainability, design, and social impact. Are there prizes? Yes! Each member of the top three ranked teams will receive a USF gift card prize. Also, the winning team will meet with USF President Fr. Paul Fitzgerald to pitch your idea for possible implementation on campus. You can help make a lasting difference at USF!

  5. MORE ON JUDGING CRITERIA Feasibility – Is your proposed solution realistic in scope and scale? Does the background research and development proposal make sense? Impact – Would the proposed solution affect behaviors and have real environmental or social impact at USF and beyond? Can it potentially change the world from here ? Innovation – Is your proposed solution novel? Does it solve a problem or meet a challenge in a creative and original way? Is the solution itself sustainable?

  6. MORE ON TEAMS Interdisciplinary team composition is preferred, and team sizes of 3-5 team members are acceptable. Proposals with at least one member from each of these three categories will have priority: Category A Architecture, Arts, Design, Humanities,Language, Literature Category B Computer Science, Kinesiology, Math, Natural Sciences Category C Business, Communications, Social Sciences
