  3. MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL End of year greetings to everyone in our school community. As I reflect on the 2017/2018 school year, please join me in acknowledging and celebrating the many wonderful learning experiences and educational opportunities that have taken place for our students, in numerous classrooms and in very creative and innovative ways. Together we have planned and executed best teaching practices and held students to high standards and expectations. Not all those learning experiences happened in classrooms, many occurred on playing fields and in P.E. halls, performance spaces, theatres and perhaps on riverside walks. That experience could not occur without the endless energy, skills and devotion of the Pres staff. Thank you and well done to an incredible group of professionals. Our Students' Council contributed this year to the development of the whole school community especially through their organisation of Wellbeing Week. As the voice of the student body you help to add richness to the fabric of life in our school. Thank you to our Parents' Council who support us by providing additional resources to add to our girls' already rich school experience. Your contribution to our library is much appreciated as is your important support for cyber/internet security information sessions. Thank you to the members of our Board of Management your dedicated oversight ensures a bright future for our school. A final word to Pres students: Thank you for all your hard work throughout the school year. Congratulation to all of you; to those of you who tried your very best, to the many girls who achieved academic excellence, to those who excelled in the Arts, in the science labs, on the sports field and brought home regional and national trophies. I am so honored to be your principal; you make me proud. You keep me laughing and young at heart. I am grateful for your kindness, patience, joy, astute insights and amazing talents. Best wishes to our graduating sixth years, we will see you on results day in August! They graduate from Presentation with the skills, mind sets and qualities that will best equip them for success in the world of the future. Our girls are intelligent, resilient, creative, imaginative, disciplined, dedicated to life-long learning, respectful and ethical. Following the example of Venerable Nano Nagle, whose 300th. birthday we celebrate this year, they are the future leaders and role models of society. Everyone have a safe and happy summer break. 4. CAREER GUIDANCE In September 6th year students attend a Careers Fair in Kilkenny. All the colleges in Ireland had information stands where students could find out more about the college or course they were interested in. 6th years had guest speakers in from a number if colleges including DCU, UL, WIT 5th years attended an open day in WIT in November and UCC in May. TY's attended an open day in CIT in April. The guidance department organised a number of whole school events for College Awareness week in November including all staff wearing a badge for the week detailing where they went to college and what they studied. This gave students the opportunity to ask teachers about their experience in college and to realise that there are a number of different pathways to becoming a secondary school teacher. The guidance department organsied a careers afternoon for second year students where we arranged for a number of past pupils and other local business people came in to the school to talk to second years about their job. Second year students got the opportunity to get an insight into a number of different careers and got to ask questions. A mock interview day was held for 5th year students with Junior achievement and Abbott Vascular. All 5th year students presented a CV and were interviewed by a member of the Abbott Clonmel. During Engineers week a number of Engineers held careers talks with 3rd, TY and 5th years students. All students were shown a 'Dream big' engineering video. All 6th years students had at least one individual guidance interview regarding their options after the leaving cert. 1st and 3rd and TY students received information regarding subject choice and had the opportunity to avail of individual meetings with the guidance counsellor in relation to choosing their subjects.
