Computer/ Technology time is not always homework time Technology – make it your friend – twitter, Remind, school info app. M odel and teach good digital health Community Involvement – Get it started/ done Schedule Homework Time – structure is important Encourage your child to get involved - Direct correlation between happiness and success. M ental Health – encourage mindfulness, resiliency, time for exercise, the importance of sleep, put the technology to bed (in its own room away from users), check in regularly with your child
Find a different way to ask “ How was school today” : For instance: “ What was your favourite part of your day?” “ Which teacher are you most like?” “ If you could change anything about your day, what would it be and why?” “ Which class are you enjoying the most/ least?” “ What did you learn in _____________ class today?”
Pathway Planning – Individual Pathway Plan with a focus on WHO the child wants to become (not on the WHAT) M onitor progress of student Discuss issues and support problem solving Connect with academic support Quiet space to collect thoughts Study skills M uch, much more!
We are the main contacts for you regarding your student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP) We will be connecting with your student if they have an IEP in the next few days A letter will be sent home with your student
IE Ps are being worked on as we speak and will be sent home to you Mid-October for your review and consultation SE A laptops – If your student has a SE A laptop, we have them in the Academic R esource R
We won’t necessarily chase down students to access their SE A laptops, but they will be readily available for those students who came from our DDSB feeder schools.
For students coming to Brooklin HS from out of the Durham District School Board…
We will begin the DDSB IE
P process shortly and will be in contact if we already met and/ or you provided documentation at your registration meeting
As well, if students had SE
A equipment and still require it with the DDSB, we will begin the requisition process alongside the IE P process
Questions or concerns? We will be in R
any concerns or questions to discuss in person!
