Registration Basics

1-11 Credit Hours

  • Part Time Enrollment
  • Check Financial Aid to see if this effects status

12-18 Credit Hours

  • Full Time Enrollment
  • 15.5 hours/semester = 8 semester graduation
  • Many UT scholarships require 27 credits (not including

AP or post-secondary credit)

19-21 Credit Hours

  • Each hour carries an additional fee per credit hour
  • 21 hours is maximum load without Dean’s approval

15 to Degree

15 Credit hours x * Semesters (or 4 years) = 120 hours At UT, many degree programs are in the 120-124 credit hour range

Taking 15 Credit hours each term rather than 12 credit hours:

  • Saves you about $9,200 in educational costs
  • Reduces your time to degree by one year (from 5 years to 4)

At UT, the tuition rate is the same when taking between 12-18 credit hours per semester; taking 15 hours will not cost you any more in tuition than taking 12 hours UT Scholarships are designed to cover 8 semesters
