RLA: Four novel studies (Tuck Everlasting, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, The Giver, & Wonder) as well as a poetry unit, grammar unit, & literary devices unit Social Studies: Ancient & Medieval Civilizations, including Ancient & Medieval China, Ancient Egypt, Mesoamerica, Africa, Greece, Rome and so much more Math: One & two-step equations, fractions, decimals, ratios, proportions, & overlapping of all those concepts Science: What look at what makes up our world (cells & atoms), biology, genetics & heredity, categorizing our world, robotics integration, STEAM experiments
8th Curriculum
RLA: Four novel studies (The Coffin Quilt, Mouse, Ender’s Game, and more) comprehension strategies, language mechanics, literary analysis, literary techniques, sentence structure & development, writing skills, the writing process, vocabulary enrichment Social Studies: WV Studies, from the PreColumbian period to the present day. Special emphasis placed on the interdependence of geographic, cultural, political, environmental and economic factors affecting the development and future of our
- state. All 8th grade students will participate in the Golden Horseshoe test as well as
real-time and virtual field trips. Math: Number operations, number relationships, proportional reasoning, expressions, equations, inequalities, geometry, data analysis and probability Science: Five major content topics: structure and properties of matter; chemical reactions; growth, development and reproduction of organisms; natural selections and adaptation; and human interactions. In all classes, there is a focus on several practices which include planning and carrying out investigations; developing and using models; analyzing and interpreting data; using mathematical and computational thinking; obtaining, evaluating, and communicating information; and engaging in argument from evidence
