- Connect CCSS with needs of EL students
- Understand need for specific, research-based
vocabulary instruction

the next generation ELD standards, we are re-conceptualizing the instruction of academic language:
– Language and Literacy co-exist – Therefore, academic language is learned within context first – mostly during reading.
