• Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) seems to be associated with an enhanced risk of severe COVID-

19 infection.

• Henry BM, Lippi G. Chronic kidney disease is associated with severed coronavirus disease 2019 (COVD-

19) infection. Int Urol Nephrol. 2020 Mar 28.

• Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) occurs frequently among patients with COVID-19. It is strongly linked to the
• ccurrence of respiratory failure and is rarely a severe disease among patients who do not require

ventilation.

• 1,993 (36.6%) of 5,449 adult patients (median age 64 yrs) hospitalized with COVID-19 from March 1,

2020 to April 5, 2020 in a large New York Health System (13 hospitals) developed AKI during their hospitalization.

As a global company, FMCNA was able to recognize and prepare for COVID 19 early and strategically to implement needed policies and procedures that protect our community, staff, and patients. There have been three key themes to our response strategy.

Responding to the Crisis

Enhanced Benefits for Staff

• Childcare /eldercare assistance stipend
• COVID-19 Emergency Pay program
• Critical needs pay for all isolation staff and staff working in acute care

hospitals

• Health and Wellbeing Support
• Remote work plan for eligible employees – there have been no layoffs
• Frequent expressions of appreciation and gratitude from company leadership
• gifts, messages, encouragement, T-shirts, etc.

Clinic Safety

• Exceeding all CDC guidelines for PPE
• Restrictive policy for clinic vendors and visitors
• Isolation shifts and isolation clinics
• Day porters for additional cleaning
• Multiple screening avenues for patients and staff to address both symptomatic

and asymptomatic possibilities

• Testing options for patients and staff at clinic "testing tents"
• FMCNA contracted labs for quick testing and results
• Multiple teams working daily on developing pro-active policies and tracking

Communication, Information, Education

• Regular communications, conference calls, and virtual town halls with our clinic

staff and other employees

• Central site in our Medical Office Newsroom for all employees, medical

directors, and affiliated physicians with our latest policies, trainings, FAQs, patient/clinic handouts, and other documents related to COVID-19 response

• CEO, Bill Valle encourages employees to reach out directly to him to share

needs they are experiencing on the frontlines

clinics for isolation: AL, AZ, CA, HI, NC, NV, NY, OR, UT, TX, WA

• Transportation license waivers for Ambulnz vehicles: CO, IL, TX, WY
• Dialysis specific state regulations/conflicted with federal CMS waivers:
• Staffing requirements: CT, MA, NJ, TX
• Hemodialysis Patient Care Technician Certification/Registration:
