Site 6

  • Fire training area for 50 years
  • Used as temporary storage

area for soil bins from Site 12

  • The Record of Decision

currently in review, to be finalized December 2014

  • Navy proposes removing soil

with dioxins, furans, benzene, and manganese; test groundwater for VOCs, manganese, arsenic, and petroleum

Site 12 – Old Bunker Area/Current Residential Neighborhood

Site 12

  • Historically used for ammunition bunkers,

incineration and disposal of solid waste

  • Data Gaps Investigation was completed

in October, this data will support a Feasibility Study Addendum in 2015

  • Soil contaminants include PCBs, PAHs,

dioxins, and metals, including lead, aluminum, and copper

  • Groundwater contamination in one area

(arsenic and weathered petroleum)

  • Low-level radiological items are being

addressed under the radiological program

  • Work in Solid Waste Disposal Areas

will be complete in 2016. Fieldwork includes demolition of buildings, digging up remainder of solid waste, and doing radiological screening and confirmation

  • Remainder of Site 12 to be complete in

2021

Site 21

  • Oil recovery area operated

from 1946 to 1995

  • Successfully cleaned up

groundwater contamination with bioremediation treatment technologies

  • Groundwater and soil gas

monitored semi-annually for chlorinated VOCs

Site 24 – Dry Cleaning Facility

Site 24

  • Groundwater area of contamination reduced from 20 acres to ½ acre
  • A Proposed Plan for the remainder of the cleanup is being developed;

Navy will issue in 2015

  • Groundwater is

monitored semi-annually

  • Site boundary has been

modified to support property transfer

Site 27

  • Cleanup objective is protecting

diving ducks; no human health risk

  • Dredged 8,766 cubic yards of
  • sediments. Placed rock at the

bottom of the excavation

  • Project is complete

Site 31

  • Used during the 1970s as a storage yard, buried construction and burned debris.

Also a radiologically impacted area

  • Contaminants include lead, dioxins, petroleum, and PAHs
  • Post-Record of Decision excavation is complete; radiological survey is complete
  • The site has been restored and the fences have been removed
  • The Navy is currently seeking radiological free release of the site

Radiological Surveys - Site 12

  • Housing area scans were completed
  • n August 19, 2014, after 50 full

days of surveying. Two weeks after each scan was complete, the housing provider was given a copy of the results to forward to tenants. A survey completion report issued today (November 19, 2014).

  • Samples collected in the 1400 series

housing area for radiological soil concentration data; draft report issued November 6, 2014

  • Gamma walkover survey and

scanning conducted in all common areas and backyards; draft report will be issued in December 2014
