MEANINGFUL

How should I be supporting student’s summer reading? Does it have value to the learner?

  • Are they stuck on a series and invested in a larger story?
  • Or, in the life journeys of those characters?

Does it consider kids’ likes, passions, & interests?

  • Are they passionate about paleontology, robotics, famous

people and places?

  • Are they Yankee fans? Choose a Derek Jeter biography.

Is it relevant to their lives this summer?

  • Are you headed for Nantucket? Read about humpback whales.
  • How can your kids help in the planning your travels? Let them

research, read brochures...

Connects to something relevant. Reading ahead of a trip or a visit/reading sparked by a visit

AUTHENTIC

How can I make summer writing authentic? Take opportunities to capture both the special and quiet moments of your days… through discussion and writing.

Can kids take pictures and log family trips? Can they make lists and write letters? Can my child persuade me to go somewhere? Write a special memory?
