Goals • Determine the ideal long ‐ term location and size for each Southeast Galt school. • Determine long ‐ term enrolment boundaries within the Southeast Galt Planning Area to balance enrolment amongst the schools. • Explore the long ‐ term sustainability of the schools in Southeast Galt with particular focus on the impact of small schools. • Establish the boundary and size of a new elementary school east of Dundas Street.

  5. Goals • Address site size and/or facility issues at St. Ambrose, St. Francis and St. Vincent de Paul. • Determine how the full day kindergarten program can be fully implemented by 2014. • Maximize the number of walkers.

Options The ARC has reviewed 30+ options • Boundary change only (no closures, with/without a new school) • One closure (with/without a new school) • Two closure (with/without a new school) • Three closure (with a new school and the purchase of Lincoln Avenue Public School) Holy Spirit & St. Vincent de Paul are not being considered for closure.

Narrowing down the Options The ARC took a variety of information into consideration including: • Public input • Costs • How well each option met the goals of the review – Enrolment vs. Capacity – Transportation/Walkability – Facility and/or site issues – School size • Ability to attract students to Catholic schools

  11. Preferred Option Each school would receive a • major renovation or addition – every student will have an upgraded school. Purchase & renovate Lincoln • Avenue P.S. Major addition/ renovation or re ‐ • build St. Vincent de Paul. Addition to Holy Spirit. • New school east of Dundas St. • All construction projects are • dependant upon receiving Ministry funding.

  12. Preferred Option • Eliminates facility and site size issues at St. Francis and St. Ambrose. • All schools are approximately the same size around 400 ‐ 600 pupil places. • Eliminates small schools. • A long term option.

  13. Preferred Option • Schools are distributed across the Southeast Galt area with the majority of capacity towards the south end where the highest concentration of students live. • Maximizes walkability over the long term.

  14. Walking Webs ‐ Existing • 1.6km walk distance shown on map. • High concentration of students living in the south end.

  15. Walking Webs ‐ Preferred Option • Lincoln Ave. P.S. is located very close to St. Anne but allows approx. 70 more students to walk (using the 1.6km walking distance).

  17. Phase 1 • Purchase & renovate Lincoln Avenue P.S. • Close St. Anne and St. Ambrose • All students move to the new Lincoln Ave Catholic School Approximate Timing: September 2014

  18. Phase 2 • Renovate and add an addition to St. Vincent de Paul. • Close St. Francis. • Area I moves to Lincoln Ave. • Area J moves to St. Vincent de Paul. Approximate Timing: September 2015

  19. Phase 3 • Build a new 450 pupil place school in the new Southeast Galt Community. • Areas G, H, Q2, R, S, T, & U move to the new school. • Grandparent Gr.8 students – no transportation. Approximate Timing: September 2017

  22. Upcoming Board Meetings • The Board of Trustees is responsible for making the final decision. All board meetings are public meetings. The Southeast Galt School Closure Review will be discussed at the following Board meetings. • November 26, 2012 —The final report of the ARC will be presented along with the recommendations. Delegations. • December 17, 2012 —The Board of Trustees may ask staff questions of clarification. Delegations. • January 28, 2012 —The Board of Trustees is scheduled to vote and make a final decision. No delegations. • Delegations must register in advance to present to the Board. • A notice will be sent to all families outlining the process.
