The PV/MSC Process/Methodology used:

  • 1. Identify the need and
  • bjective:
  • What is the effect of trauma healing

interventions on Kaabong reformed warriors.

  • 3. Identify and train community

facilitators

  • 4. Create a detailed workflow

covering the entire process - consent process, the story selection process etc

slide-18
SLIDE 18
  • 4. Choose the domains/areas of assessment and formulate the

assessment questions:

Reformed warriors question: What has been the most significant change in your life since you participated in the Trauma Healing activities implemented through the PEACE III program? Community group and reformed warriors’ spouses group question: What has been the most significant change that you have personally witnessed in your community since the introduction of the PEACE III program?

Findings and Learnings from the process:

Key Finding:

  • Strong evidence of positive change as a result of trauma healing intervention for Kaabong

reformed warriors

  • Change effects among the spouses and the general community appeared less strong.

Learnings: Timing: Right timing – Government security/disarmament, available seed capital, skills building etc Alternative Livelihoods: Trauma Healing on its own is not enough for meaningful change to happen Partnerships and Collaborations: Governments, Other NGOs very key Women and Youth Engagement: Key change agents for peace

slide-24
SLIDE 24

Recommendations from the process:

Local community video screenings: Need for wider community screenings of video testimonies - security officers in Kaabong, community members etc. Prioritize community and local actor’s participation: Trauma Healing strategy that is inclusive and sensitive to traditional value systems and culture Further support necessary: To Cement and deepen the peace Adopt PV/MSC as an evaluation methodology for similar peace building actions: PV/MSC gives participatory power and voice to the target community, creating more peace as a result.
