Smoking cessation Public Health Agreement (PHA)

PHA objective:

  • Provide one to one intensive stop smoking support on a weekly basis over a minimum

6-8 week period. Maximum support for up to 12 weeks

  • Undertake carbon monoxide (CO) reading
  • Monitor quit rates at 4 weeks post quit date
  • Record and submit all client data to Surrey County Council Public Health Team via

PharmOutcomes Treatment Outcome Quit at 4 weeks: £60 Not Quit at 4 weeks (quit date set, support delivered): £25 Lost to follow up No payment

Pharmacotherapy – Nicotine Replacement Therapy reimbursed at the Drug Tariff price

What does the data tell us?

  • Large proportion of pharmacies

monitor your clients progress: ‘Provision History’, launch a tracker report, or filter clients by service

  • Get outcomes for your clients –

payment is made even for a not quit

Incentive scheme

  • One off additional payments e.g. for reaching 10 and 20 quitters in

the year. More details will follow.

Why deliver? How to deliver

  • You have good

knowledge of the need in the local geographical area – target the smokers who need support the most

  • You know who buys the

products NRT and e-cig products

  • Already have existing

relationships with smokers - including those with LTC

  • Promote your service
  • Ensure all staff know about

your service and how to recruit smokers

  • All smokers are given an

appointment time for next session

  • Offer all stop smoking

medications as first line

  • CO monitor at every visit
  • Give a maximum of 2 weeks
