  • Smoking is the single most modifiable risk factor for

adverse outcomes in pregnancy.

  • It is estimated to contribute to 40% of all infant deaths.
  • Evidence has demonstrated that babies born to women

who smoke during pregnancy are around 40% more likely to die within the first four weeks of life than babies born to non smokers.

  • Pregnant women CAN use nicotine products
  • ALL pregnant women who smoke must be referred to the

specialist team.

 Complete inter-team referral form.  Fax to the Stop Smoking Service.  We will contact the client within 48 working hours.  We will make them an appointment at a time and location most convenient to them.  You will receive a letter to inform you of their outcome.

 Over 100,000 people die from smoking related illness in the UK every year.  Providing a stop smoking service in your pharmacy can help save the lives of your customers.  If you feel you do not have the time or capacity to provide a stop smoking service then please take 30 seconds to REFER.
