What is SFD?
Benefits of SFD • Presents a clear picture of how wastewater and faecal sludge management services are delivered. • Provides technical and non-technical stakeholders with an easy-understood advocacy tool that can be used to support decision-making on sanitation planning and programming.
SFD Levels • Level 1 – Initial SFD : limited data - desktop data … • Level 2 – Intermediate SFD: secondary data – interviews, field visits, group discussions … • Level 3 – Comprehensive SFD: extensive data – primary data, questionnaires, interviews, field visits …
SFD Development • No specific way of collecting data • Not a precise scientific analytical tool • Focus – percentage of population served not necessarily volumes produced/generated • Interventions – low hanging fruits, how much population will be affected • Glossary standardised – definitions provided (e.g. type of system) Choose the closest to your situation
