  8. WHO LOOKS AFTER MY CAMPER?  Summer Staff Hiring Process  Interviews: Group/Individual  4 reference checks  2 Background checks Criminal 1. Sex Offender 2.  Mature Staff & Age Requirements  Junior Counselors (ages 16-17) – 20%  Counselors & Group Leaders (ages 18+) – 80%

COUNSELORS – IN – TRAINING  Counselor-in-Training: “CIT”  Leadership and character development program for ages 14 and 15  CITs are NOT counselors, they are paying campers  CITs also receive volunteer hours towards their high school quota  Almost every camp group will have 1-2 CITs and they wear a different-colored shirt than the counselors  Many CITs grow into our counselors, senior camp staff and even camp directors !

  10. STAFF TRAINING  3 Full Days of Training  Child Abuse Prevention & Reporting (online & in-person)  Bully Prevention  American Red Cross safety courses  Behavior Management  Swim Instruction  Leading Activities  Campy, fun stuff too!  Senior Leadership staff receive 1 additional day

  12. WHAT TO PACK?  Backpack  Just big enough to fit everything  Marked with camper’s name  Water bottle  With name  Separate from lunch  Sunscreen (spray is best)  With name  Extra full set of clothes in a Ziploc with camper’s name on it.

WHAT TO PACK?  Lunch & Snack  Pack a lunch and drink everyday (Full Day only)  The drink should be in addition to the water bottle  Please no food that needs to be heated up  We provide a snack every day in the morning, but you are welcome to pack your camper their own.  Big zip lock bag, brown sack or soft case  With name!  No rigid coolers or lunch boxes please

  14. MORE LUNCH DETAILS  Allergies  We request that campers do not have nuts in their lunches, but we cannot ENSURE a peanut-free zone  Groups eat lunch together (not as one large camp)  Just 3’s and Hafaday campers do NOT eat lunch  Healthy & Balanced  Please avoid candy, soda, etc.

  24. MORNING DROP-OFF  8:30-8:45am  No earlier please – safety of campers is 1 st !!  Please stay in your vehicles  Camp staff will greet your camper in vehicle  If you have questions, please pull into a parking spot to walk onto camp

  25. PARENT PICK-UP CARDS  MANDATORY: Authorized Pick-up Card CAMPER’S NAME Rye Y All Stars Camper’s Group Name (please list camp attended most frequently if attending multiple)

AFTERNOON PICK-UP  Just 3’s and Hafaday campers: 11:45am-12:00pm  Full Day campers: 2:45-3:00pm  Your patience is like gold to us – SAFETY 1 st !  Parent Pick-Up card displayed on vehicle dash EVERYDAY (+ keep photo ID handy just in case)  Stay in your vehicles  Camp staff will walk your campers to your vehicle  If you need to have conversations with camp staff, please park and walk in (with your Parent Pick-Up Card)  Please don’t be, BUT if you are late…  Your camper will be waiting for you in the Child Care Room  Please park and bring your Parent Pick-Up Card with you!

WHEN PLANS CHANGE  Late to morning drop-off?  Please CALL the camp director office – do not rely on email for this  Need to pick-up early?  Hand a note to your camper’s Group Leader  Please do not put notes for camp staff in camper backpacks….99% of the time we never receive them  You can also call the camp director’s office  Your camper will be waiting for you in the Child Care Room  Remember to bring in your Parent Pick-Up Card

SWIMMING @ RYE Y CAMP  KinderCamp Campers swim every day  Curriculum: YMCA Swim Lessons  Safety (ACA and DOH regulations)  Campers have a swim evaluation conducted on their first day of camp  Campers receive a color-coded swim cap based on their swim level  Campers swim in pairs - “buddies” and buddy tags are placed on Buddy Board  Buddy checks conducted every 15 minutes  Special additional Camp Aquatic Director in the summers  Aquatic supervision ratios - 1:3 for beginning swimmers. 1:6 for intermediate +

  32. CAMPER HEALTH

  33. CAMPER HEALTH  All Senior Leadership hold current certifications in:  Responding to Emergencies (RTE)  CPR for the Professional Rescuer  EpiPen  Camp Directors hold current Medication Administration certifications (MAT)  An additional 10 counselors and staff are trained in Responding to Emergencies (aka glorified First Aid) and CPR.

  34. CAMPER HEALTH  The First Aid office is located in the Child Care Room.  Staff are trained to bring any and all campers who are not feeling or acting themselves to the office – despite any apparent First Aid needs.  First Aid is basic…  Wound cleaning with water  Bandage  Ice Packs  Parents/Guardians are notified  All First Aid is logged in a camper medical journal

  35. CAMPER HEALTH  911 will be called when appropriate.  Situations when campers are required to be picked-up:  Fever  Note: camper must be fever-free for 24 hours prior to returning  Vomiting  Diarrhea  Lice  Note: a medical note must be presented, which clears the camper to return to camp  Situations requiring more First Aid than we can provide, but not to the extent where we need to call EMS.

  36. CAMPER HEALTH  What if my camper has to take medication during the camp day?  Try to schedule outside of the camp day, BUT….  MAT-certified staff  Medication Form http://ryeycamp.org/forms/  What about Epipens?  About 10 staff are trained in Epipen  On 1 st day, please bring Epipen to Camp Director.  We have generic Epipens prescribed to the Rye Y for emergencies only

  38. LOST & FOUND  An inevitable part of any camp: your camper WILL probably lose something at some point OR come home with another camper’s sock.  Label, Label, Label  Communicate with us when something is lost  Lost & Found locations:  Rye Y (2 nd floor near vending machines)
