COUNSELORS – IN – TRAINING

 Counselor-in-Training: “CIT”

 Leadership and character development program for ages 14 and 15  CITs are NOT counselors, they are paying campers  CITs also receive volunteer hours towards their high school quota  Almost every camp group will have 1-2 CITs and they wear a

different-colored shirt than the counselors

 Many CITs grow into our counselors, senior camp staff and even

camp directors!

you are welcome to pack your camper their own.

 Just 3’s and Hafaday campers: 11:45am-12:00pm  Full Day campers: 2:45-3:00pm  Your patience is like gold to us – SAFETY 1st!  Parent Pick-Up card displayed on vehicle dash EVERYDAY

 Stay in your vehicles  Camp staff will walk your campers to your vehicle  If you need to have conversations with camp staff, please

park and walk in (with your Parent Pick-Up Card)

 KinderCamp Campers swim every day  Curriculum: YMCA Swim Lessons  Safety (ACA and DOH regulations)  Campers have a swim evaluation conducted on their first day of

camp

 Campers receive a color-coded swim cap based on their swim level  Campers swim in pairs - “buddies” and buddy tags are placed on

 Responding to Emergencies (RTE)  CPR for the Professional Rescuer  EpiPen

 Camp Directors hold current Medication

Administration certifications (MAT)

 An additional 10 counselors and staff are trained in

Responding to Emergencies (aka glorified First Aid) and CPR.

CAMPER HEALTH

 The First Aid office is located in the Child Care Room.  Staff are trained to bring any and all campers who are

not feeling or acting themselves to the office – despite any apparent First Aid needs.

 First Aid is basic…

 Wound cleaning with water  Bandage  Ice Packs

 Parents/Guardians are notified

 All First Aid is logged in a camper medical journal

CAMPER HEALTH

 911 will be called when appropriate.  Situations when campers are required to be picked-up:

 Fever

 Note: camper must be fever-free for 24 hours prior to returning

 Vomiting  Diarrhea  Lice

 Note: a medical note must be presented, which

clears the camper to return to camp

 Situations requiring more First Aid than we can provide, but

not to the extent where we need to call EMS.

 What if my camper has to take medication

during the camp day?

 Try to schedule outside of the camp day, BUT….  MAT-certified staff  Medication Form http://ryeycamp.org/forms/

 What about Epipens?

 About 10 staff are trained in Epipen  On 1st day, please bring Epipen to Camp Director.  We have generic Epipens prescribed to the Rye Y for

emergencies only
