Every staff member is dedicated to providing the best education possible to the children of our community through the acquisition of knowledge in all subjects, as well as through positive character development.

  15. Morning Drop Off • School starts promptly at 7:30 am every morning. • Morning Drop Off- Students will come in through the south entrance of our student drop off zone and line up in the cafeteria. • Bus Students and Day Care students will be dropped off in the front of the school. – Please feel free to pick up Bus Routes in the front office.

  16. Front Drop Off • The Front Drop off is a Fire Lane. Parking is strictly prohibited. Parking is at your own risk. • We are working with law enforcement to change the Fire Lane to a designated Drop Off Zone.

  17. Breakfast in the Classroom • Breakfast will be served at 7:30 to 7:45 am in your child’s classroom. • If your child comes in after 7:45, they will not be served breakfast.

  18. Closed Campus • Robert Rojas Elementary will remain a closed campus. Parents will not be allowed in the building. – If you need to speak to administration, teacher or any other personnel on the campus, please sign in the front office. – Please sign in the front office if you need to have a Parent/Teacher conference afterschool. • The teacher will be notified to come to the office to meet the parent during their conference time only..

  19. Dismissal Procedures • Dismissal Procedures- Teachers will dismiss students on the side of the school. – Parent Authorization Pick up Form- Keep Updated all year – A designated area will be assigned to each teacher. – Dismissal cards will be implemented. Please notify the teacher how your children will be going home. • Bus • Parent Pick Up • Day Care • Walks Home Please send a note in the agenda with your child in the event that you need to change how your child will be dismissed afterschool.

  20. Student Pull Outs • Please sign out students in the office. We encourage you to schedule all appointments after school if possible and limit the number of times you pull out your child during the school day. • After the 4 th pull out, a contract will need to be made for the child to make up the instructional time.

  21. Attendance and Tardies • Make it Count- students need to attend school everyday on time. School begins at 7:30 • Attendance Rules will be implemented. Once a student has 3 or more absences in a 4 week period, the attendance committee will refer the child to court. • Attendance committee will meet every 6 weeks with administration to review all excessive absences. • According to state law, students must be in school 90 percent of the time in order to be eligible for promotion.

  22. Discipline • Robert Rojas Elementary will implement a Positive Behavior Approach (PBiS) and follow the SISD Code of Conduct. – Roadrunner Tickets • Each teacher will align their discipline plan with our campus Discipline Poster plan. • Students will be rewarded for their positive behavior each week of school. • Failure to follow classroom rules can result in students not being able to participate in school events (i.e. school dances/field trips).

  23. Dress Code/Uniform • Uniform bottoms for boys - BLUE jeans/khaki/ tan or navy uniform style pants or shorts • Uniform for girls – jeans/khaki/ tan or navy uniform style pants, shorts, skorts, or jumpers in the appropriate length for school • No Cargo pants or shorts • Uniform tops - white, royal blue or navy blue polo shirts . For safety reasons, please ensure at least one of the polos has a school logo on it to wear on school field trips. All shirts must be tucked in. • Friday Option – Rojas T-Shirt or College T-shirt with uniform bottoms • Footwear- We encourage students to wear any type of closed tennis shoe to school. • Face/Hair- No make-up may be worn. Hats/caps may be worn outside the building during lunch/ recess. No unusual hair color (red, orange, green, blue, etc…) • Winter Wear (all students) - white or other turtlenecks may be worn under the uniform top, appropriately fitting sweatshirt/sweater may be worn over uniform short sleeve shirt. • Jackets / Sweatshirts with Hood (Cap) must be unzipped or remove them during school hours.

  25. Student Incentives • Roadrunner Tickets- students are given opportunties to earn tickets based on effort, behavior or academic success. A weekly and monthly raffle will take place to earn prizes. • Attendance Posters- Students fill out a letter in the word “Attendance” every time the class has no tardies or absences. Once the class has filled out all the letters, they earn a free dress pass. For every 5 posters turned in, a pizza party is earned .

  26. Student Incentives • Discipline Posters- Students fill out a letter in the word “Discipline” every time the class has no classroom interruptions or referrals. Once the class has filled out all the letters, they earn a free dress pass. For every 5 posters turned in, a pizza party is earned. • AR Rewards- Once we kick-off our AR program, students will earn 9 week prizes for meeting their reading goal.

  27. Family Nights • Robert R. Rojas will host a Family Night at different businesses in Socorro. Students will receive a FREE DRESS PASS for attending. • More information will be sent home with your child.

  28. Holiday Celebrations • Robert R. Rojas will have the following events for families: – Grandparents Day – Thanksgiving Lunch – Breakfast with Santa – Christmas Program – Mother’s Day Dance – Talent Show More information will be sent home with your child.

  29. End of Year Awards • A Honor Roll- All A’s (grades of 90 and above) • AB Honor Roll- All A’s and B’s (grades of 80 and above) • Perfect Attendance- NO absences or tardies for the school year • Citizenship Award • Academic Awards- Math, Reading, Spelling, Science, etc… • UIL, Literary Anthology, Art Show, Sports, Cheerleading

  30. Campus Fundraising • Money goes back to the students for student incentives. • Fall Campus Fundraiser – VIP Savings Card – $20 per Card – Starts in September – Parental Support is greatly appreciated

  32. Homework Policy • Homework will start the 3 rd week of school. • Students will be given an agenda and a Homework Folder with the items that need to be completed for homework.

STAAR 3 rd – 5 th Rigorous assessment for all 3 rd - 5 th grade students: 3 rd grade: Reading and Math 4 th grade: Reading, Math, and Writing 5 th grade: Reading, Math, and Science • It is essential that students attend school everyday and that parents support their child by assuring they read and assist them with their homework if possible. Communicate with your child’s teacher on a consistent basis.

  34. Istation K-2 nd • Students in K-2 nd grade are required to take a reading assessment. The reading assessment used is Istation and keeps progress of their reading levels. • Reading is the key to success and essential for your child’s success. S Students MUST read at home every night for at least 30 minutes .

  35. Grading Policy • Each parent will receive a progress report every 3 weeks indicating your child’s academic and behavior progress. • Report Cards are issued every 9 weeks. • 1 st – 5 th grades are evaluated on a numeric scale score. • Prek- Kinder are evaluated a rubric scale. Teachers will notify parents as soon as a student is failing.

  36. Extra Curricular Activities • At Rojas Elementary we offer the following opportunities for your child: Dancing Roadrunners, Literary Anthology, UIL Events, Math Bee Art Show, Safety Patrol Music, Destination Imagination Talent Show Sports (Soccer, Basketball)
