SOCIAL SCIENCE RESEARCH
- A current elective program in Social Studies
- Consists of four courses--one full year introductory course, followed by 2 alternate-
day full year courses, and culminates with a half-year Regeneron/Science Talent Search Prep course
- After extensive evaluation and research, we have applied to the College Board to
- ffer the AP Capstone program as a more rigorous and structured research program
- Our existing social science research program would be phased out with the exception
- f the introductory elective course, open to 9th and 10th grade students
- AP Capstone will not be open to Science Research students

- Pre-requisite final grade of A in SS10R, A- in SS10H or B+ in AP World History for grade 11 entry
- Recommended that students entering grade 10 not enroll in any additional elective courses due to the
Health 10 requirement
- Commitment: As per HS course catalog, courses cannot be dropped after the end of quarter 1,
particularly due to the required group project for this course
AP RESEARCH PLACEMENT CRITERIA
- Successful completion of AP Seminar; minimum final course grade of B+
- AP Seminar teacher recommendation
TIME COMMITMENT FOR AP CAPSTONE
- According to schools that have participated in the AP Capstone program the time
commitment is comparable to other AP courses.
- Students must research, read deeply, write and rewrite on a very rigorous level
similar to expectations in college.
- Though there are fewer smaller tasks, the level at which students are asked to think
and communicate is at a much deeper level.
- Google classroom will be used to support ongoing student access and collaboration.
(Note: there are required group projects)
AP CAPSTONE EXAM FEE
- Current College Board exam fee is higher ($142) than other AP exams ($94)
because students and teacher have access to the AP Capstone Digital Portfolio.
- Resources available on the digital portfolio include EBSCO research database and
Turnitin Originality Checker.
- For this reason, once a student has posted a final draft of the through-course papers
- n the Digital Portfolio, the entire fee must be paid as required by the College
Board.
