Vision Statement
§ The Young Women's Leadership Academy
will offer 6th-12th grade girls a dynamic learning experience that encourages critical thinking, inspires confidence and nurtures the intellectual and social development necessary for success in college, career, and life. Rigorous coursework, field-based exploration and personalized counseling help students transition from middle school to high school and to higher education and beyond.

§ Senior year for each YWLA student
includes a work-based learning through internships aligned to their program of study.
§ Students practice professionalism,
leadership skills, and problem-solving skills that will prepare them for an evolving workforce.
§ Current internship locations include:
Baylor Scott & White, Zig Productions, UT Southwestern, UTA Physics Dept, Arlington Vision, Smoothie King, Fashion Designer Enrique Lopez, and Crowne Plaza.

What is T-STEM?
- Texas Science, Technology, Engineering and
Mathematics (T-STEM) Academies are rigorous secondary schools
- Focus on instruction and academic performance
in science and mathematics-related subjects
- Increase the number of students who study and
enter STEM careers:
- Provide dual credit at no cost to students
- Provide academic and social support services to
help students succeed
- Increase college readiness
- Reduce barriers to college access
- Align to regional workforce needs

Designated T-STEM Academy
§ Young Women’s Leadership Academy at
Arnold became a designated T-STEM Academy since 2015-2016.
§ Texas is home to 94 state designated T-
STEM Academies and has 9 planning year campuses for the 2018-2019 school year.
T-STEM Academy Designations
Campuses awarded T-STEM Designation are provided technical assistance and professional development to ensure implementation of the T-STEM Blueprint with fidelity. T-STEM Blueprint serves as a roadmap for benchmarks, programs requirements, and indicators to facilitate individual T-STEM Academy growth.

School Design and Target Population
BENCHMARK 1: SCHOOL DESIGN
§ The T-STEM academy must provide a STEM
focused program serving students in grades 6-12.
BENCHMARK 2: TARGET POPULATION
§ The T-STEM academy shall serve students in
grades 6-12, and shall target and enroll students who are at risk of dropping out of school as defined by the Public Education Information Management System (PEIMS) and who might not
- therwise go to college.
Strategic Alliances and Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment
BENCHMARK 3: STRATEGIC ALLIANCES
§ Strategic partnerships with business and industry
partners and Institutions of Higher Education (IHEs) are formally articulated in writing and clearly define a variety of STEM careers.
BENCHMARK 4: CURRICULUM, INSTRUCTION, AND ASSESSMENT
§ The T-STEM academy shall provide a rigorous
course of study that enables students to receive a high school diploma and complete industry certifications, work-based learning experiences, and/or early college credit during grades 9-12.

§ The T-STEM academy must offer students a variety
- f relevant, high-skill work-based learning
experiences at every grade level contributing to students earning STEM-focused industry certifications and credentials.

§ The T-STEM academy will provide wrap-around
strategies and services involving multiple stakeholders to strengthen both the academic and technical skills necessary for high school and college readiness.
