Registration Dates ● Wednesday, March 25 - Students receive registration cards ● Thursday, April 2nd - Complete and return to homeroom teachers ● April 13-17 - Counselors and administrators will meet with students individually to input course requests ● Early May - Parents receive placement recommendation ● Early June - Parents receive single gender placement information ● May-June - SCMS counselors and administrators schedule core courses

  8. Single Gender Program ● Based on demand ○ Not just an Honors program ● Language Arts and Math ● Teacher assignments may change ● Lottery placement ● Indicate interest on the registration card

  11. Honors Placement Dates ● Teachers will complete rubrics by April 3 ● Parents will be notified of recommendation by May 1 ● May-June - SCMS counselors and administrators schedule core courses ● Please communicate with administrators and counselors if you have questions

Is Honors Right for My Child? ● Is my child intrinsically motivated to do well in school? ● Does my child show persistence even when presented with difficult material? ● Does my child complete homework and projects without adult prompting? ● Does my child have good time management skills? ● Does my child think “outside the box”?

Is Honors Right for My Child? ● Does my child take the initiative to make up work when he/she is absent? ● Does my child apply constructive criticism? ● Does my child enjoy reading for pleasure (beyond what is required in school)? ● Is my child capable of handling a rigorous and self-directed vocabulary program? ● Can my child apply new math concepts with little direct teacher instruction?

  14. 7th Grade Math ● Math 7 ○ Major topics include: Proportional Relationships, Writing and Solving Multi-step Equations and Geometry ● Honors ○ All of the Math 7 topics and over half of Math 8 topics. ○ Math 8 topics include: Introduction to Functions, Graphing Equations, Operations with Exponents

  15. 8th Grade Math ● Math 8 ○ Equations and Functions ○ Math 8 EOG in late May / early June ● Math I - Yearlong ○ High school credit and grading (70/30) ○ Completes the study of Linear Functions & Relationships ○ Math I EOC and Math 8 EOG ● Math I/II - One per semester ○ High school credit and grading (70/30) ○ Math II completes the study of Geometric Concepts and Trigonometric Relationships (explored and applied) ○ Math I EOC, Math II EOC and Math 8 EOG
