Why CT E ? Why Now?

1980-1990’s “A Nation at Risk” (1983)

RISD removes vo-tech facilities and replaces with computer labs.

1984 Perkins Act

First authorization of Perkins Act, which aims to increase quality of CTE in order to help the economy.

Late 1990’s RHS Magnet Programs Launch

RHS facility-based CTE programs: Culinary Arts, Health, Robotics, Welding.

2006 “New” Reality

Not all RISD grads go to college. CTE

  • ptions expand to

6 program areas.

2007-08 16 Clusters

Gov’t re-organizes CTE into 16 federal clusters. Texas and RISD re-align to 16 clusters. New CTE facilities open in RISD.

2013-14 CTE Task Force

Task Force developed to create strategic plan for future.
