Stats SA receives data files from home affairs which is analysed for the publication of the report. Stats SA reports on information about the father BUT NOT on whether the father is present in the child's life or not. According to Page 12, subsection 3.2 of the report, the Birth registration form provides a space to capture information about the father of the child (Section B of Appendix A on page 32). However, for most forms, Section B was not completed on the birth registration form.
