Opening doors to give pupils a competitive edge. Focus on embedding ambition, developing communication, resilience and social capital, providing role models and educating for work readiness.

Curriculum – Skills programme Developing Personal, Learning and Thinking Skills (team worker, leader, reflective and independent learner, creative thinker) - Yr7 – how to be an outstanding learner - Yr8 – how to be an effective and active citizen - Yr9 – employability skills and knowledge The fortnightly programme is centred on communication and presentation skills, leadership, group dynamics, role play, resilience, creativity, problem solving, research and reflective practice.

Using business to develop social capital (part of a BITC cluster) • Hogan Lovells law firm – Debating, speaking competitions, event planning, yr7, middle leader work, communication and networking skills, mentoring, supporting curriculum, introduction to law • Macquarie investment bank – Work experience project, business mentoring • Civil Service Mentoring, Crossrail, The Guardian, BITC cluster events, Mosaic, BDP, Network Rail Various mentoring, one-off careers workshops, competitions, projects

Mentoring • Guardian newspaper – developing leadership • Macquarie – business mentoring to open the door to the city • Guest speakers in assemblies, talks (eg Speakers for Schools) and school events • Think Forward programme • Mosaic – business and enterprise project mentoring • Presenting Yourself Day - preparing for employment • Peer mentoring – Young Leaders and Seniors • Academic mentoring/1:1 tutoring • Hogan Lovells – Yr10 & 11 programmes

Awareness of ensuring all students are accessing opportunities • Trips, visits, clubs recorded on spreadsheet to ensure that all students are accessing these opportunities – PP and FSM noted to ensure disadvantage gap reduced • Plan carefully to use business links for targeting pupils • Benefactor to fund and provide opportunities = Bell project • Use PP fund to give pupil access to activities eg trips, residentials, 1:1 tutoring • Engaging parents as much as possible

Further and Higher education UCL mentoring and Inspire programme • Upward Bound (City and Islington college and London • Metropolitan) City and Islington Science careers fair • SOAS mentoring project • Next Top Doctor and Engineering (UCL) through STEM network • City University tutoring in maths and English • Westminster University/Network Rail project • All follow a similar pattern targeting disadvantaged students of high potential with no experience in their family of Higher Education – engaging pupils and parents through workshops, mentoring and university visit
