A- TV SERVICE ADVERTISEMENTS

 In Turkey RTÜK – Radio Television High Commission- suggests TV

channels to air short advertisements regarding healthy lifestyle and other topics. All national TVs air these kind of service

  • advertisements. Here are two samples.

B- NGO CAMPAIGNS

 Non-Governmental Organizations usually organizes campaigns to

promote a healthy lifestyle. There are famous NGOs like –Red Crescent-Kızılay, –for antismoking campaigns- Yeşilay, – for Cardiovascular diseases-Türkiye Kalp Vakfı, -for Leukaemia- LÖSEV and so on. Only in Mersin there are 29 NGOs working for charity to promote health.

 These NGOs organize nation wide campaigns like seminars and

speeches, camping and trekking activities. They also organize small events within the city such as sport competitions.

C- CAMPAIGNS AT SCHOOL

 Ministry of education tries to promote healthy lifestyle by school

subjects such as Health and Traffic at 9th grade and themes in various school subjects including English. Also 2 hours of PE lessons are compulsory for all students.

 Ministry of education also organizes campaigns such as School

Milk- A campaign where primary school students are supplied with 200 ml milk three times a week for free. Another campaign is Daily delivery of dried grapes to preschool and first grade students to develop the habit of healthy snacks between meals.

C- CAMPAIGNS AT SCHOOL

 White flag campaign is another campaign by Health and

Education ministries. White flag and its certificate is awarded to schools which meets the necessary criteria for hygiene within school and its environment.

 Nutrition friendly school is yet another campaign by Health and

Education ministries. This campaign was first started by WHO in 2010 and pilot tested in Hungary Italy Greece Denmark Finland. A school is accredited as Nutrition-Friendly Schools after fulfilling 26 essential criteria identified in 5 core components of the NFSI framework.

D- CAMPAIGNS BY THE COMMUNITY

 Local authorities usually organizes campaigns to increase the

awareness on active lifestyle. For example Tarsus Municipality

  • rganizes semi marathon on 31 March.

 Tarsus district governorate organizes sportive events such as

football and volleyball cups for students as well as adults.
