Personal Statement

My Illustration practise at this current moment in time primarily focuses on raising awareness of the Autism Spectrum through colour, visual storytelling and pattern design. Although this chosen subject comes from a personal perspective, I am determined to use what creative and imaginative skills I have to raise awareness, encourage understanding and get people to start talking about different subject matters, such as raising awareness

  • f the Autism Spectrum in my illustration practise. The central theme of my Illustration practise overall is about

promoting diversity and equality through visual mediums and language to show the Autism Spectrum in a more positive light. One of the personal elements of my Illustration practise is that I work with traditional methodologies rather than working with digital screens and tools. Creative designers and thinkers are often encouraged to use digital ways of working due to the advancing capabilities of technology so I am aiming to keep practising with digital tools in order to enhance my illustration practise further. However, my Illustration practise will remain more focused on traditional forms of drawing and creating as it can add a more human and direct touch to my illustration practise. I use my illustration practise to raise awareness and start conversations in the community. Storytelling is another important element in the work I create because storytelling can create a sense of wonder and promote awareness across all age groups. My job as an illustrator will be to continue to produce artwork, book publications and community-based projects that will be accessible and viewed on all platforms to a wide range of audiences with no set limits or labels necessary and make the illustration world more celebrative, diverse and accessible.

Degree Show Statement

My illustration practise is all about colour spectrums, visual storytelling and pattern design. I am an illustrator determined to use my creative and imaginative skills to raise awareness, encourage understanding and get people to start talking about issues that surround disability and equality. The central theme of my featured project and Illustration practise in general is about promoting diversity through visual mediums, traditional methodologies and forms of drawing and creating. Free-hand creations often comes from me wanting to raise awareness or start conversations on a particular concept or subject matter. My degree show space is all about raising awareness of the autism spectrum though colour, shapes, statements and visual language. Storytelling is an important element in the work I create because storytelling can create a sense of wonder and promote awareness across all spectrums and walks of life. Raising awareness of all disabilities, including the autism spectrum is important because it needs more positive thinking and shows how not all disabilities are visible to the

  • eye. My job as an illustrator will be to continue to produce artwork and book publications that will be

readable and accessible on all platforms to a wide range of audiences with no set limits or labels

  • necessary. Illustration is ageless and diverse, so my aim as an illustrator is to create work that can be

viewed and celebrated by people of all age groups and backgrounds.
