Sustainability Factors
Best environmental, economic and technical solution
Environment LCA Social Quality Economic LCC
- Link economic, environmental, and social impacts to
reuse solutions
- The Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) informs on the
environmental impact of the solution
- Full system Life Cycle Cost (LCC) adapts the solution to the
economic limitation
- The adapted effluent quality leads to safety at the point of
use and social acceptance
- Optimal solutions vary based on plant size, local and
regional conditions, requirements, flexibility, etc.
IVL |
Outcomes?
- Various reuse effluent quality requirements can be achieved by treatment systems that are
ready to be implemented as they are based on available technologies.
- The total environmental impact does not need to be higher than conventional wastewater
treatment despite the fact that wastewater is treated to a reuse water quality
- In fact, the total environmental impact for some of the optimized ReUse-systems can be
lower than for traditional treatment systems as far as this can be quantified considering all benefits the reuse of wastewater generates!
- Costs for different reuse applications are in the same range or even lower than reported
costs for existing conventional wastewater treatment plants in Sweden!
Thus, wastewater reuse is feasible today!
