GOAL SETTING April 5th 1-3 PM
- Describe current achievements
- Assess where you are now in relation to goals
- Visualize a positive future for yourself

what you learn today
Orientation April 3th 1-3 PM

CONFLICT RESOLUTION April 10th 1-3 PM
- Identify your triggers
- Know how to communicate
effectively through writing, speaking, and moving
- Compare and contrast effective and
noneffective examples of avoiding and managing conflict
- Understand what sets you off and
how to manage your own behavior
- Explore strategies for effective
communication
COMPUTER LITERACY April 12th 1-3 PM
Paid four-weeks training – 13/hr
You have to attend the workshop in person in order to get compensated.
Week 1 Week 2
- Learn basic functions of Microsoft Word,
PowerPoint and Excel
- Know how to use job search sites like
Idealist
- Create and use email effectively
- Review your social media presence to
ensure that it reflects the you you want to present to employers
WHAT IS LEADERSHIP? April 19th 1-3 PM
Moderated by: Floyd Rumohr, Executive Director, Brooklyn Community Pride Center. Panelists: Sandy Hong, Co-Founder/Director, New Women Space, David Kilmnick, President/Chief Executive Officer, LGBT Network; Carlos Menchaca, NYC Council Member District 38, Gabrielle Royal, Vice President at Citi, Campus Diversity Recruitment and more TBA.
FINANCIAL EMPOWERMENT April 17th 1-3 PM
- Learn the fundamentals of budgeting
including income and expenses
- Understand the Importance of a checking
and savings account
- Learn the process of filing for taxes including
1099s (contracted work), W2 withholding (when employed), and resources for free tax filing
- Gain knowledge of tax and investment
strategies, securities, and life insurance
- Learn about the LGBTQ+ dollar and how it
effects the national economy (personal financial power)

- Identify your strengths, skills and
accomplishments
- Draft an accomplishments statement to
include in a résumé
- Develop an outline for a
professional résumé or revise your professional résumé
- Know the basics of how to correctly format

INTERVIEWING FOR SUCCESS May 1 1-3 PM
- Understand how to conduct yourself during
different types of interviews including one-on-one, group, phone, and videoconference
- Develop a 5 minute sales pitch of “You, Inc.”
- Understand how to determine cultural “fit” within an

- Know how to conduct basic research on a company

Youth Supports
The primary purpose of the pre-internship resume is for you to introduce yourself to potential future supervisor. It is important that your resume be well-written and free of grammatical, punctuation, and spelling errors.
- The average review is 15-30 seconds
- Resume should be no longer than one page
- Margins should be no more than one inch
- Do not use fancy fonts; fonts should be 10.5 – 12
- Use consistent formatting for headings and dates
- Do not use sentence or paragraph formatting
- Limit use of abbreviations
- Do not lie, exaggerate or use clichés (i.e., “out of the box thinker”)
- Put your actual GPA; do not round up
- Leave out information about marital status, gender, height, weight, or
health
- Do not list references

Resume Guidelines and Tips
This letter introduces you to a potential internship supervisor and is their first impression of you. This letter allows you to go in-depth about important experiences/skills and relate them to expertise needed in the field. It is important that the letter is well written as it provides a sample of your writing skills and shows the supervisor that your are invested in demonstrating your interest and commitment to your field of study.
The letter of introduction should:
* Be no more than one single spaced page * Avoid redundancy and wordiness * Use the same paper as your resume (in case you are asked to bring a paper
copy to an interview)
* Not have any TYPOS * Sign your name in ink between your close and typed name * Be given to friends and/or colleagues for proofreading or suggestions * Be PROOFREAD after a few hours or days (improve sentences, grammar,
typos)
