  2. “Kids First, New Mexico Wins!” GOALS Ensure school districts and charter schools: • accurately report transportation data • understand who should be reported • understand the difference between category 1 and category 2 • understand what mileages should be reported • understand that all data will effect final allocations for FY21 • understand K-5 Plus and Extended Learning Programs NMPED Data Conference Spring 2017

  3. “Kids First, New Mexico Wins!” Reporting Dates • Submit data beginning August 30 th for K-5 Plus • Submit data on the 40 th Day for Extended Learning Programs • Submit data on the 80th and 120th Day for regular to-and-from transportation, will be used to calculate FY21 allocations NMPED Data Conference Spring 2017

  4. “Kids First, New Mexico Wins!” Required Data • K-5 Plus – submit vehicle snapshot and vehicle mileage templates. On July 17 th each district should have documented the number of miles traveled by each school bus on each school bus route, showing the route mileage in accordance with the type of road surface traveled not including non-essential deadhead miles. Data will be submitted beginning Aug. 30 th NMPED Data Conference Spring 2017

  5. “Kids First, New Mexico Wins!” Required Data • Extended Learning – submit District Fact Template with the additional miles associated with the extended learning program. Miles should be the total for the entire year not including non-essential deadhead miles. Data will be submitted on the 40 th day NMPED Data Conference Spring 2017

  6. “Kids First, New Mexico Wins!” Required Data • Regular to-and-from transportation – Submit data on the 80 th and 120 th day. All Transportation templates must be submitted to include ridership, miles, per capita miles, buses, and the number of school days • Data submitted on the 80th and 120th Day for regular to-and-from transportation will be used to calculate FY21 allocations NMPED Data Conference Spring 2017

  8. “Kids First, New Mexico Wins!” Ridership Data Only report students “eligible and riding” 22-8-29 Transportation distributions; reports; payments: On the 2 nd and 3 rd reporting date of each year, each local school board of a school district and governing body of a state- chartered charter school shall report to the state transportation director ……. (3) the number of students transported on each reporting date of the current year ………. NMPED Data Conference Spring 2017

  9. “Kids First, New Mexico Wins!” Ridership Data Category 1 – All regular education students K-12 and 3Y/4Y special education students not requiring an accommodation or special service. A student counted in Category 1 cannot be counted in Category 2. These students are identified in STARS with a program code of “BUS” for “regular to and from” and BSCE for “Continuing Education” NMPED Data Conference Spring 2017

  10. “Kids First, New Mexico Wins!” Ridership Data Category 2 – All students with disabilities in grades K-12 or 3Y/4Y who are receiving transportation services. The student must have an IEP requiring an accommodation or special service (wheel chair, aide on the bus, car seat, etc.). These students are identified in STARS with a program code of “BUSA”. Students counted in Category 2 cannot be counted in Category 1. NMPED Data Conference Spring 2017

  12. “Kids First, New Mexico Wins!” Mileage Data • REGULAR TO AND FROM SCHOOL ROUTES - Regular "to and from" school bus routes are those which have been established for the purpose of transporting eligible children to school (during the regular school day calendar) in the morning and back home in the afternoon at the end of the school day. These routes transport eligible children from their homes or a designated school bus stop all the way to school. These transportation services must be performed by use of a school bus or per capita feeder agreements. NMPED Data Conference Spring 2017

  13. “Kids First, New Mexico Wins!” Mileage Data • LIVE ROUTE MILEAGE (reportable) - The mileage from the point where the first pupil boards the bus to the school where the last pupil alights; and from the school where the first pupil boards the bus to the point where the last pupil alights. • VOCATIONAL MILEAGE (reportable) – vocational mileage will be reported the same as the regular school bus route...on the daily live route mileage from the point where the first pupil boards the bus to the school where the last pupil alights; and from the school where the first pupil boards the bus to the point where the last pupil alights.   14. “Kids First, New Mexico Wins!” Mileage Data • ESSENTIAL DEADHEAD MILES (reportable) - mileage from the bus lot to the first stop in the morning and miles back to the bus lot or storage location after the last stop after school. • NON ESSENTIAL DEADHEAD MILES (non- reportable) - Total mileage DOES NOT INCLUDE mileage from the last morning school back to the bus lot or the daytime storage location and back to the midday or afternoon school.   15. “Kids First, New Mexico Wins!” Mileage Data • PER CAPITA FEEDER (PCF) - To provide per capita reimbursement to a parent or guardian in cases where regular school bus transportation is impractical because of distance, road conditions or sparseness of population NMPED Data Conference Spring 2017

  16. “Kids First, New Mexico Wins!” Bus Data • All buses shall be entered into STARS including activity buses and spares • Only regular to-and-from buses used on the specific reporting date shall be marked “Yes” if in use “No” if not in use • No mileage will be reported for busses not in use.   17. “Kids First, New Mexico Wins!” Certification Form • Transportation Bureau will not finalize the data review until certification report has been submitted • Certification report need to be signed and notarized by the superintendent or charter school head administrator NMPED Data Conference Spring 2017
