Water Main Project Details • Clean & line the 12-inch water main in sidewalk on north side of Powder House Boulevard from North Street to Mason Street • Contractor: Umbro & Sons Construction Corporation of Boston, MA ▫ Experience in Boston, Brookline & Woburn • Engineering consultant: Kleinfelder of Cambridge, MA ▫ Experience in Somerville & Cambridge • City contact: Peter Violette ▫ pviolette@somervillema.gov ▫ 617.625.6600 x5414

  4. Water Main Cleaning and Lining • Removes corrosion buildup and restores capacity • Prevents further corrosion • Less disruptive than replacement ▫ 5-foot opening every 500 to 600 feet or at bends, valves, or hydrants

  5. Water Main Preliminary Schedule • Pre-construction meeting: May 17 th • Notifications: May 22 nd • Umbro mobilization/site prep: May 30 th • Cleaning & lining work: June 19 th • Work complete: July 29 th • Post-winter repairs: Spring 2018

Repaving Details and Schedule • From Powder House rotary to Burnham Street ▫ Under contract with D&R, work deferred due to gas main replacement ▫ Includes sidewalk & curb in-place, ADA compliance ▫ Anticipated schedule: June through July • Burnham Street to Alewife Brook Parkway ▫ Top of priority list ▫ Bid this summer for Fall 2017 or Spring 2018 construction

Restriping Options • Restriping to occur after resurfacing for each section ▫ Rotary to Burnham Street section done before Burnham Street to Alewife Brook Parkway section • Constraints ▫ No changes to curb lines ▫ About 40 feet curb-to-curb • Options ▫ Restripe as-is ▫ Single bicycle lane in uphill directions ▫ Two-way separated bike lane along Tufts campus
