What We Do...
Competition Style Marching Band
We are a “competition style” marching band. In addition to performing and supporting our football team at all football games, we compete throughout the state during the fall. We focus on one very complex show that typically is not fully complete until early October. In addition to our competition show, we also perform a different homecoming show and 8th Grade night show.
What We Do...
Football games, competitions, community events. Students must be enrolled in a concert band during the school day in order to participate, special circumstances may apply to Guard. Students must be academically eligible to participate. Earn PE Credit (after 2 completed seasons) Marching Band is a “Fall Sport” Trip to Philly and NYC!

Uniforms
Summer Uniforms
Summer uniforms are used for parades, Tag Day, special performances and the first few games of the football season. We will use our show shirts as our summer
- uniform. These shirts go along with our
2020 show and have our fall schedule on the back. Shorts are black mesh with the WK Band Logo and pockets. Students will also need black, white or grey tennis shoes for the few times we are in our summer uniforms.

Varsity Block
What is Varsity Block?
Developmental role for members of the band who may need additional time and experience prior to marching all performing events. Varsity Block members perform drill at all football games and potentially for some competitions. Members could fill openings should an injury occur. After one season, a student in Varsity Block should move into our competition drill.
Varsity Block
How students are evaluated:
Rookie Days, Spring Camp and July 4 Rehearsals Evaluated throughout the season for readiness to jump into a spot, regardless of instrument. Decisions will be made by our first week of band camp starting on July 22.

Elements of a Successful Show…
Educational - There are structured goals to perform the given show. The show has a diverse selection of music that will broaden the student’s scope of what can be performed on a field. ‘Total Effect’ Stretch - Coordination between visual and music. The show will be going through many phases as the season goes on. Do not expect a clean show
- ut of the gate. October is our month of cleaning. The show should challenge the
students until October 31st. Accessible to the audience - Obviously, we like to push the envelop with show design, but still keep all of our audiences engaged. You will find moments in our show designed to intrigue our judges and entertain audiences on Friday Nights. Start the year stronger than the year prior - Our goal is to begin the upcoming season stronger than we ended the year prior. Everyone should learn from what those before them have done and work to push the program further ahead.
